I've been reading about everyone's ear pain and it doesn't sounds anything like what I get. Am I the weird one here? LOL My discomfort starts in the ear, it starts to ache and when I press on my ear with my whole hand it really hurts. I feel the discomfort down into my jaw and in front of my ear and I feel a pulling or stretching sensation when I open my mouth. Does anyone else's ear hurt when they press or push on it?

Hi Lori,

I have almost everything tmj can give you, but I do get the same type of pain your are talking about. Sometimes I get shooting pains down my ears to my jaw, but If I touch my ears they hurt! :( I know there are others that have really bad problems with the ears from tmj like ringing all the time and a full feeling so far mine pain is bad everywhere else but there!

Take Care,

Starr

My ear pain feels like an earache deep inside my ear. But it does not hurt more to press on it. Mine also gets worse with the cold. Can't wait for winter! From reading this board, I think there are 1,568,564 different symptoms of TMJ!

When I press on the left side of my jaw, I get a sound of tearing paper meets rice crispies, if that makes any sense. I feel it deep inside my right ear. No pain really, just fullness and tinnitus. Anyone want to trade? My tinnitus for your pain.

I retract my offer. I just experienced an intense puking migraine this morning. From drinking cheap wine. I'll stick with the Tinnitus. http://pages.prodigy.net/rogerlori1/emoticons/bonk.gif

sounds exactly like what i had, also, it would travel to that side of my face, to where my lips felt numb, plus up to the side of my temple by my eye, so don't be too alarmed, i had all the same symptoms. spent over a year & a half with an ent specialist til i found out it was tmj.

Hey Lori,
I think a lot of people find out they have some type of tmjd because of ear problems. I went to the Dr. for about 2 years every couple of months (25 years ago) telling him that I knew I had ear infection because of earaches and weird pain. I never had infection. I finally was diagnosed with tmj. I don't know your situation, but you need to make sure it's not infection or other ear problem with a good ENT. If they don't find anything, I can tell you from experience that problems with your tmj's can cause all kinds of deep ear pain and pulling sensations. It's usually from muscle spasms. Is the top of your head sore? If it is, the temporal muscles are in spasm. And the bad news is, they can stay that way for years. I have found that theraputic massage helps to relax all the head and face muscles and this helps alot. (You have to find a therapist who knows about Tmj). Massage is about the only thing that I have found that really can make a difference.
TO Venus,
I don't know your situation either, but the "Sweet Tart" feeling started with me after open joint surgery. In my case, it's from nerve damage. I have found that getting the muscle spasms calmed down helps. (The muscles spasm and press on nerves) And when you first start eating take very small bites and sips.
One other fact, my Mother is 70, has never been diagnosed with tmj, but she gets the "Sweet Tart" feeling. She was with me at my OS visit several years ago, and he told me by just looking at her, she probably had a little tmj, but at her age, she would probably never have any real bad problems.
My advise is always have every weird sensation checked out by a DR. you trust. But, I can tell you after all these years of Tmjd and surgeries, the muscles and nerves in your face, head and neck can really make you have some weird and scary pain and sensations. WITH TMJ, EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE.
I PRAY FOR A CALM DAY FOR EVERYONE,
Cymy Sue

I have pain like that. I get an ache but if I push on my ear it turns into a very sharp pain. When I open my mouth I get dizzy, and if I yawn I get a quick high pitched ring and then everything is muffled.

It's not like I am totally deaf... I can still hear sounds, but it is like I am under water or something. I can tell someone is talking to me but I can't really understand what they are saying.
