Can I just say I love this board?

I have spent 3 years trying to figure out what is wrong with me. I thought TMJ then, but I wasn't certain. Got a splint and it didn't help, so I figured it must be something else. Now I am convinced and at least can get on the right track. After my sinus surgery, I'm going to see a neuromuscular dentist. Worth a shot..

Anyway, back to my topic, are you all able to exercise?
I've never been much of an exercise fan, but I did make myself go to the gym occasionally and walk a lot. Now I cannot do anything! Even walking tends to aggravate all my muscle aches. Weightlifting - forget it. I do a pilates tape now and then (beginner positions) but that puts a strain on too, which I feel the next day.

I don't know what to do. I was told that exercise is important for this condition, that it can really help you. But I find that every time I exercise, I feel worse the next day.

Is anyone in this boat?

Hi: The only exercise I do is walking on a treadmill and use a stationary bike about 3 times a week. I'd do it more but I have lots of arthritis pain in my knees. Exercising doesn't really affect my TMJ though. Does the Pilates bother you? It looks like it would be very relaxing and would stretch you out well.

To be honest, when I'm really "shut down" the last thing I want to do is exercise...but on good days I jump on a recumbent bike. As long as I'm careful of my posture it feels great.

My PT has told me that working out is a must to train my muscles etc. to go in the correct positions. It really helps with my balance issues and seems to give me more energy for the 'bad' days!

I do walk when the weather allows, but I feel like I get a better workout on the bike...my PT did say, no workout above the waist....the muscles are too inflammed and I could do some real damage!

Hope this helped!

I do quite a bit stationary biking on my recumbent bike and I like it. Swimming is great too.

yes, I feel worse the next day too, but it definitedly loosens up the muscles in the long term. I think they tighten up then begin to loose slowly, but don't over do it. I do the stepper, and/or stationary bike. EASY DOES IT!!!!!
