I was wondering how your appointment went with the institute?

I went to the center on monday and was very impressed.
-First I filled out about a hundred forms and had a
circular x-ray of my jaw and joint.
-I then met with 3 senior interns and their instructor,-the Gelb center is run by Tufts University Dental School.
-They performed a verity of movement tests and
measurments.
-they diagnosed me with a form of myalgia--basically
muscle disfunction/imbalance from years of clenching,
then not clenching and possibly bad posture from hanging over a computer terminal all day.
-I do use a large hard splint at night, they said I
must continue to use it,and that it needed a slight adjustment, also- I MUST use a splint during the day--
they are fabricating a thin lower splint for daytime use.
When I swallow, it always feels like i have something
in the back of my throat. One of the doctors asked me
to put the splint in and swallow, the lump was gone---something i never noticed before--he explained that my neck muscles are also imbalanced-they also control the jaw.Since i dont wear the splint during the day, i am constantly swallowing--water,saliva--and constantly adding stress to the muscles and adding to the imbalance.
Treatment will also include a muscle stress test to
actually measure the imbalance between my left and right side and home treatment instruction on
accupressure.
they also said my neck range of motion was off and
there was a problem with my c1 vertibrea, they said they had a chiropractor on staff, but i just happen to have started seeing one.
I was very impressed, and have some hope--again
this is all they do--cranio-facial pain related to
tmj/tmd--they have a fairly good web site--just search for Gelb craniofacial

I have the same symptoms as you with the muscle spasms in my neck, shoulders, and back, with wierd sensations in the legs and feet. Should the be "certified in TMJ"? How do you know how experienced they are? Did you get referred to one?

Posted on the wrong subject Sorry....
I'm glad that it worked out well for you.
I'm going tomorrow to a dentist who is on the craniofacial association so I hope he knows what he is
doing. I definitely know Im out of allignment and I need a repositioning splint I hope he can give me relief!!!
I had a bite guard that ive been wearing for about a year now and I think it is making me worse. So last night I took it out and I'm not as bad as yeserday with the tight jaw pain. Its so wierd the pain seems to move everyday ?

It sounds like your appoitment went well. I sure wish I lived closer to some of the better TMJ specialists. I'm happy for you that you found help and that they are competent.
