Hi All,
Has anyone tried Neurontin for pain management? I've been getting weekly migraines that last 4 days and are getting more intense. My doctor's think they are caused by my TMJ disorder. My Neurologist put me on Neurontin, an anti-seizure medication that has been successful with nerve pain and migraines. I'm on the lowest dose possible and have to ramp up my dosage weekly. I read online that it can be used for TMJ pain if it is nerve related. If anyone has has success or gotton worse with this drug, please post! Thanks!

Hi Cvella: If you do a search on Neurontin at the top of the page, you'll find several posts from people who have taken it. I've heard mostly good things about it. Good luck. Sue

Hi cvella - my doctor is considering putting me on Neurontin for TMJ pain and ear pressure/fullness problems.

Please let me know how it works for you. Have you noticed any side effects?

thanks

I was not on that drug but I did have migraines caused by TMJ. Mine got worse and worse. Even when they ended my head would be sore for 2 weeks. My migraines caused me to be sick to my stomach. After my first jaw surgery they went away completely. Of course I have other pain....but no migraines.

MBR-
I just started taking it this week and I noticed when I take it I'm a little sick to my stomach for about an hour. My doctor said that it might take a few weeks to get used to the drug and hopefully the side effects will go away. I'm not sure what's going to happen when I start increasing my dose (I'm increasing 100mg/week for 4 wks). I'll keep you posted.

I have been taking Neurontin for 2 years now...but for other issues. My tmj probmems just presented this past September...so I was wondering what role the Neurontin has played..if any. Not sure if it's masking an even more painful tmj..or it somehow contributed to my new difficulties. I started on it for excruciating headaches that came on following a myelogram. It was believed I had a spinal leak...but he head pain was neverending and left me unable to function - drive - etc. The Neurontin helped me quite a bit (though did not erase the headaches). I am wondering if the myelo really was just the truama that set off the tmj...but didn't hit my jaw hard till this fall. In any case, Neurontin seems to do well for many folks with nerve-relateed pain syndromes...so perhaps it will help you with the tmj pain as well. It's sure worth a shot - if you can tolerate the side effects (for me they were minimal).
Keep us posted!! Best of Luck, Robyn

Hi,
I have not tried Neurontin, but I have been on Topamax. I've heard through the grapevine that Topamax is the neurologists favorite for everything. However, I could not handle the side effects. As far as I know, Neurontin is supposed to be more tolerable.
hope you're all doing well,

Hi Stacy - if I'm not being to invasive, can you tell me what side effects you experienced woth Topomax? However, if you would rather not, that is absolutely ok.

take care,
mbr
