--My tmd is all muscular in nature from clenchinf for many years. for the last month i have been treated at
the Gelb oral facial center at tuffts university in boston. they have me wearing an upper splint at night and a lower splint during the day.
--during sleeping hours, or when dozing, i do attempt to clench and have woken up many times. i also infrequently experience a muscle spasm with my jaw
almost slamming shut on its own.
--yesturday, 2 doctord recommended a .5 mg dose of
klonopin nightly for 30 days to help get the muscles to relax at night. after the first dose, my head/neck etc do seem less tense thismorning, however i am worried about the addictive properties and the
withdrawel. the dr's told me it was a very low dose
for only a few weeks and i should have no problems.
--has any one had experience with these drugs.
--thanks

I don't think you need to worry about that dosage of Klonopin. A pain management doctor explained to me that you don't become addicted, just dependent. This is an important distinction. However, she also said that on a dosage of .5 there is not a danger of even becoming dependent. I took this amount for several months and had no trouble stopping using it. The patients who have a probem with Klonopin are those who just keep upping the dosage until they are taking a lot every day. I don't think the doctors would recommend it for you unless it was in your best interest.
