Hi Kelly,
I have been reading your post and just read the one that states, the Doctor you are seeing treats some of the worst cases in North America. I fit that criteria, as do several other members.
I am currently in Splint Therapy, but after 25 years of inappropriate treatment and surgical damage, I have only expected limited improvement.
After reading your posts, I feel it may be possible to obtain better treatment and be rid of a disorder that has "taken over" the majority of my life.
I would be willing to travel any distance to seek out this treatment. Could you post the Name & Address of this Doctor. (This is permitted in the Guidelines)
I would like to get in touch with him, give him the details of my condition and see if he would take me as a patient.
Thank you in advance for your help,
Cymy Sue

Hi Cymy Sue,
The only reason I haven't posted the doctors name is because I know he prefers a low profile despite his important position in the field of TMJ. I'm concerned that he wouldn't appreciate my posting his name on this site and as much as I want to help as many people as I can, I have to be honest and tell you I don't want to upset my doctor in any way that would jeopordize my son's and my treatment. I actually have 2 sons being treated by him, along with myself because my younger son had 2 consultations with the orthodontist that hurt us and his jaw was injured during these consults. I want to help each and every one of you and that's why I am giving you as much information as I can to help. In the information I have given I have directed you towards the doctor who is treating us so that if you find him yourself then I wasn't the one advertising his name on the internet. I would give it to you personally if there was a way but I am extremely reluctant to just post it on line. Please understand that I am not being selfish but rather am trying to help everyone while still respecting his privacy. He is very well known in the dental community but not to the general public. I don't know if you've read the articles recommended in some of the messages I've posted but if you do it will help.
If you have any suggestions for my concerns please let me know because I am still committed to helping all those suffering. I should tell you that those who have had surgery are in the worst case catagory, I am one below you in terms of severity. I know recovering is more complicated for those who have had surgery and I might be wrong about recovery in you case, if so I'm sorry, I'm no doctor as I've said but I do know that the key to recovery is proper jaw positioning that positions the condyles properly within the socket. Because I haven't had surgery, which is almost always a mistake since it rarely makes the patient better and more often makes them worse, I don't know much about it.
I assure you I plan to do everything I can to inform as many people as I can about what I've learned. I have spoken to a newspaper reporter and I'm planning legal action for what was done to my son's and I to get it on the books to help others and to send a strong message to practitioners, as well as working on writing to magazines about publishing our story to try and inform and help as many people as I can.
I want to do as much as I can to help because I know how devastating this condition is, I came very, very close to ending my life not so long ago because I couldn't take it anymore. It it weren't for my sons I wouldnt have lasted very long. The medical and dental community is not doing enought to inform people of this condition and to help them get well and I am committed to doing all I can to change that.

Thanks for the info. I hope I don't need it. I hope my new specialist can do the same for me. If not, you never know....

Kelly,
I don't know MY exact situation, yet; but I was wondering if people, like Cymy Sue, who no longer have any discs-only scar tissue-can be helped by your expert?

Hi Cathleen,
I learned a lot from my doctor, he's extremely generous with his time and with information but I didn't talk in great detail about people who have had surgery since that's not my situation or my sons' situation. I only know that he is against surgery and feels in most cases it does more harm than good. What I can tell you is that people travel from all over North America to be treated by him and that he told me he usually ends up with the worse cases because no one else will touch them or are skilled enough to help them. I met many of his patients while I was there for a week and a half and all reasured me that he was the man to help us, including the woman who travelling from California for treatment and had suffered with TMJ for over 40 years and is now free of TMJ symptoms. I don't remember her saying that she had surgery and I don't recall any others mentioning it so I don't have anything to go by. I think the best thing for Cymy Sue to do is to contact him herself and then she would know for sure.

Thanks Kelly,
I have not had anything done to my joints yet. I have just had an initial consult and some tests with a dentist who does 100% TMJ disorders. I am hoping he can help me. As it is, I already drive 2 hours to get there. He has good credentials also, and I am hoping for the best. I go in Monday to see what he has to say. Good luck to you and your son.
