Ok guys and gals, I could really use some help and encouragement please. I hate to whine, but I know we can't help each other if we don't know we need help.

Recovery is ok, but after two weeks of therapy I have had no change in opening (still 2 1/2). I am fairly certain it is because I lost the will to even care at the moment. My life has been so disrupted the last week and looks to be the same for at least another. Even before that I asked my husband to help me stick to my exercises, because they hurt or are uncomfortable, so it is hard to compel myself to do them. Now my husband is not here to help motivate me and I have no other adults at the house to help. I know I should being my exercises in my mind, but I can never get my butt motivated and moving.

I would greatly appreciate it if you would help motivate me. Yell at me, scold me, spank me, encourage me, give me hope, whatever you want. Just please, help me get my butt moving to do these twice a day. I am going to print your responses and hang them throughout the house, to help me remember my exercises and my goals. Thanks in advance friends!

Autumn- :D
If you want to eat, you have to get up.
If you want to feel better, you have to try.
If you want to smile as big as others, don't give up.
If you want to sleep like you ahve never slept before,

Hi Autumn,

We don't know each other very well as I'm new to the tmjd board, but I've read what you've been going through and would like to help.

I work from home and I do know a little about having to motivate yourself even when your personal life is very tough.

If at all possible set 2 times in the day when you will do the exercises. Do not think about whether you want to do them, or don't want to do them, make it an absolute given that at those times you will be doing them. Treat it like you would having to put your shoes on before you leave the house. Take away all choice, never doubt that they WILL HAPPEN. Ideally find times of the day when you have a routine anyway, i.e just after you've showered in the morning, or just before you go to bed.

Hope this helps and hope things are looking up for you soon. I always find the phrase 'this too will pass' extremely comforting when I'm really down, there are better times ahead, it's just so hard to see this when life is very tough.

Hi Autumn
I'm back from my vacation, and I'm so sorry that you are having problems with your exercise program..You mentioned that your husband is not around to help you, does that mean that he is busy working or what? Or did I miss something else while I was gone on my vacation? Autumn, you know that we are all here for you always, we will do what ever it takes to help you in your time in need!!
But first you must help yourself, in order for the rest of us to help you!!!
Do you like music? If so put on some music that will encourage you to do your exercise an up beat type of music..Also you can sing along with that music, that will help you open your mouth!! What certain type of foods do you really want to eat?? Try thinking about eating that food that you like so much!!
This is just a start, maybe I will think of more later and post some more ideal's..
But Autumn, you must do these exercise to get better and I'm here for you to help!!

Autumn,
Sorry you are having to deal with this while you are trying to recover. The stress of it makes it twice as hard. Just know that we are here for you and hope your husband comes back soon. Meanwhile "do those exercises" or you will be defeating your purpose of having the surgery in the first place. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/blob_fire.gif
Take care,
Elaine

Autumn,
I have an idea!!!! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/idea.gif
Why don't we do them together. I believe there is a time distance between us, but if we schedule a time that works for both of us, they can get done!

Autumn,

I am also relatively new to the board and don't know you very well. I have been following your progress and I know you were doing better before this setback. I hope your husband will get well and be back to support you VERY soon. Meanwhile, you know how much you have gone through already and don't want to have to go through more pain because you didn't do your exercises. So, GO DO THOSE EXERCISES!! :) Hope this helps. I know everyone is pulling for you.

Hi Autumn:
I realize how hard it is to motivate oneself and my husband isn't much support to me so I understand that too. With that being said it's time to get up and do those exercises and think to yourself that you must do your exercises and soon they will be over and the end result is a beautiful smile and a jaw that will open far enough to EAT GOOD FOOD again. :D And anytime you need some support do come to the board. I may not have alot of answers on somethings but I am really good at support. :bouncing: Hang in there, it will get better. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/dance.gif

:round: Turn that frown upside down and give yourself and smile. you are too good of a person to let it beat you. you are strong because it took guts to come out and want help and couragement. you are positive and I admire your courage. you have to dig deep within yourself to beat this. the hard part you have already accomplish is wanting to do your excerises and coming to terms with tmj. Here are some helpful excersises that are gentle. #1 slide your jaw just a little side to side slowly about a tooth lenth wise. #2 slide back and forth tooth wise. Do each about 30 times every hour to keep the jaw moving. Then buy a heat moist pad your your neck and keep it on for 30 min. also take msm Glusoname. It is a supplement. It will restore your bone and tissue. I hope this works. think positive. Your ok. purple99 http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/dance.gif

and in no time you will be able to do :D SMILE!

Hi Autumn: I know you've offered support and help to so many of us on the board. I don't like doing my exercises either, but I know I won't get better unless I do them, so I hope you've done yours today. I hope things will get easier for you and your husband will be around soon to motivate you. Hugs, Sue
