I was diagnosed with tmj 1 1/2 years ago, and my father kept complaing about ear and jaw pain. I told him about TMJ. He constantly said his whole left side of his face was numb and he couldnt hardly feel his lips. He had a tooth pulled a month ago due to pain and they didnt even have to use novacaine to numb it. He couldnt feel it!! So he was sent from the VA to a dentist and they said he has tmj. Can tmj really numb the face??? Hes lost some of his hearing as well. They said he has tmj but my father is wanting to request a MRI to see if there is tissue damage around his ear. Would this type of test show this and help determine he has this disorder?

Thank You

Hello!
numbness running from my ear all the way down the side of my face, numbness to the point that I drool (sp). I would have drool running down the side of my face. Awful. NOw, I did not have the MRI done, I went to Nueromuscular Dentist, he has been my saviour! I have not had numbness now for about 2 weeks and I am very happy with his treatment plan, which does not include surgery or drugs.
HOpe I have helped and good luck.
Diane
