Hi Cheryl,
I just read your report on Mike. This sounds wonderful. Now, "Mike" knows for sure, all of this has been real and I'm sure the emotional part will be much better. A Doctor who cares is such a big part of the healing process.
Mike's a great kid to have such restraint with his X-Doctor.
I've never wished for anyone to have TMJD. I have wondered if the symtoms & pain could be simulated "Somehow" and all of the "Doctors" could experience it for about 5 minutes, if treatment would not improve incredibly.
I have a tear a L4-5. The MRI's don't show if the disc is on the nerves or if there is nerve root problems. He says if I "just" have the tear, they don't fix that surgically. They use other means to try and get it to heal. (Edidurals & ?????) I've been doing this for over 2 years and it hasn't worked. I've read conflicting information regarding "Tears" on the back pain forum, here, and other sources, so I'm a little lost that some information says "tears" can be relieved or fixed surgically.
I have to have a myelogram this morning to see what's going on with the nerves. If the disc is on the nerves or if I have a narrowing of the spinal column (I think that's called stenosis) then he says he can fix it surgically, with no problem. After the myleogram today, it will take 3 to 5 days for him to make a recommendation on what to do.
So right now, I'm dreading the "test" (I've had one before,(cervical) and it's not very pleasant) and then waiting on the verdict.

Cymy Sue,
Just wondering how your myleogram went today, hopefully, not as bad as the last time? That doesn't make much sense, that if it were a tear, then epidurals would be used in treatment for this...you've already gone that route. Hopefully, within the next 3-5 days you'll have more to go on. Hang in there.
Take Care,
Cheryl

Cymy Sue:
My brother had that stenosis, the narrowing of the spinal column and he had surgery for that in about Feb. The surgery went very well and he has recovered nicely. About 15 years ago he had a herniated disk and had surgery for that and this surgery for the stenosis was a great deal easier on him than the other one.
