Hi Cheryl:
I've been thinking about you today, and wondered how you made out with Mike's old, evil dentist.
I hope you had some luck in getting Mike's impressions. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you.
Hope both of you are having a great day.
Arleen

Arleen,
You're sweet, thanks for thinking of us! I was up until 5 a.m. (yes, worrying) trying to decide how to handle all this. I planned on calling the office at 10, that's usually when the gangs' all there, and I got a surprise call at 9. HE called ME to let me know they'll be done by 11. So, I went to pick it all up, and not only did he give me his impressions, but also the $$$ they owed us. (Needless to say, he waited in the car, because he said he didn't want to even look at him)
From there, we flew out to the Neuro. dentist's office, and supplied them with all of the doctors/dentists/specialists reports since this all began, and of course, the impressions from the old dentist as well as the ones from the TMJ specialist that he saw. Apparently, the new office FINALLY received his records, just in time, too! I spoke with the Neuro. dentist this morning, (after the call from the old dentist) he was curious as to whether or not I got them.
Also, the tens unit came in, and the ladies in the office (they're so nice) sat down with me and showed me exactly how to use this on him. They went over everything! So, tonight's the night....movies and tens units! A nice start to the weekend.
I'm so happy....and relieved today. Things do have a way of working themselves out, slower than most of us would like, though, but eventually.
Oh, and I told the ladies at the new dentist's office to expect the rest of the family's records to begin showing up next week...we all found ourselves a new dentist! They were happy that we've all chosen to come there.
I hope that you're having a good day, Arleen. It sounds like you have a tough decision ahead of you, any ideas of what you want to do yet, concerning specialists? Let me know what you decide.
Thanks again for thinking of us!
Take Care,
Cheryl

Okay, I had to go cry first before typing, after reading your message Cheryl.
Cheryl, this is my wish, my prayer, for all on the message board, to find someone as committed to healing as your new found dentist.
Let us know how the tens does for Mike - and Cheryl, you try it too!
Well, back to trying to put this gallery back together!

Hi Cheryl:
I'm thrilled to pieces that everything worked out today!!! I hope the new dentist gets some good suggestions on how to treat Mike. Can't hurt having a bunch of LVI dentists looking at his case. :D
Impressions, and a tens machine! What a day! You and Mike have a nice evening. I hope the machine works wonders on him. Please give him my regards and good wishes.
I've been like a detective since I got back from my appt yesterday. Researching on the net, calling dentists whose names came up. I'm sure you know the drill.
A woman in my stitchery guild is a retired physio. She'd told me about an excellent TMJ-only physio. I left her a message today. I'm hoping she can recommend a good dentist. I'd also like her take on the dentist I saw yesterday. She's been practicing for years so I'm sure she knows who's good and whose bad.
I searched. the physio online. I found a copy of a recent article about holistic dentistry from a local Toronto paper. This physio talks about neuromuscular dentistry. It sounds like this is one of her focuses. I'm hoping she'll be able to help me. Otherwise, I don't know where I go from here.
Cheryl, if you get a chance, could you please ask your wonderful dentist if he know of anyone good in Toronto? And Diane - if you're reading this, could you also? I don't expect they'll know anyone, but it doesn't hurt to ask. If I was working, I'd save up my pennies to fly south (not Ohio, I think's where you are Cheryl? New Mexico is more in my temperature zone :)
Take care, hugs,
Arleen

Diane,
I'm sooo excited! :bouncing:
I can't wait for him to use this tens unit later. I'll give it a try, too. (it might end up being my best friend!) Did you say that you used yours for 2 hours at night? I hope that you have a good evening!
Arleen,
Don't settle for any specialist. Keep looking until you find one that listens to you and you like. You don't want to waste your money on someone who won't even address your concerns. Maybe your friend will give you some ideas, word of mouth is one of the best ways to go. His massotherapist and one of his doctor's had been recommending this current dentist for a while now. I thought that he was just a regular dentist, then when Diane directed me to LVI's site, here he's a Neuro. dentist! I will check with him when he returns, (I'm not sure when he comes back) if he knows of a good Neuro. in the Toronto area. Hope you're having a good night!
Take Care,
Cheryl
p.s. Hey Diane, at noon today, it was about 75 degrees, with 85% humidity!!!!

Hi Diane:
Apart from the rough spot of your splint, sounds like everything is going really well. What fabulous food did you eat today? :) Thanks in advance for asking your neuro about a dentist in Toronto.
How did the floor turn out? What kind of art do you sell? and are you an artist?
The crazy neighbours are making noise again. Tonight the music sounded live, so my dad went to check. The son and his buddies were in the garage playing instruments - drums, guitar, and who knows what else. We're in a townhouse. So inconsiderate. They've turned the noise level down a bit. Diane, I can hear you telling me to call the cops. I was very tempted but the cops won't bother with this. As soon my TMJ is sorted out and I'm back at work, I'll start looking for somewhere else to live, somewhere peaceful, if such a place exists in Toronto.
Hope you're having a good night, you and your hubby ;)

Diane,
Geez...these tens units are so tiny! They gave me everything that I need with this...about 75 of the electrode things, gel. Now, I have a question...His pain worsens during the course of the day, so nighttime is ideal. I know, I'm getting to the question. There's no problem with him using this for 1 1/2-2 hours, right? I noticed in the booklet it said 45 minutes to an hour. Now, the office said that they used it on him for about an hour and a half, but if he needs it on longer to use it longer. I guess what I'm asking is, it's safe to use that long, right?

Tiffany,
Why are things so difficult sometimes? This whole TMJ mess is enough to deal with, let alone having to deal with all these other things, too! I'll let you know what he says about using the tens tonight, maybe tomorrow I'll try it out, too! If this works out well, you'll have to find a dentist that'll let you take one home to use, too!!!

Hey Cheryl, Just wanted to say that is great news that everything worked out today. It really seems to be coming together here for Mike in all ways. Now the neuro dentist can get some opinions from the people at LVI. How wonderful is that guy? One of a kind Dr. from the sounds of things. And isn't he the one that was only a bit away from you? Right there under your nose. I am so glad that you found him. That is great that you are all going to transfer to their office. I had actually thought about Emily and Mike going to my new dentist. I have to ask if he treats children. I am pretty happy with the dentist I take her to now though as he was my childhood dentist and is known to be the best in our town. The only reason I ever left his practice was because when I married Mike I ended up with an HMO and he wasn't on the list. But the dentist I switched to was his collegue at one time. Too bad he never picked up his bedside manner when they worked together. (haha)
Well, just wanted to let you know I am very happy for you. Have a great weekend!!! Take care, Michelle

Thanks Michelle,
How was your day? Is the Flexeril helping out with the headaches? You haven't mentioned it lately, but is your neck still hurting you?
That would be nice and more convenient if Mike and Emily saw your dentist, too. I always like for us three to have the same dentist, it's just easier, I guess. So have you made an appt. concerning that tooth you're having trouble with, yet?
Well, have a nice weekend, Michelle.

Good evening Cheryl!
My dentist said it is okay to us it up to two hours, after that there is really no benefit, muscle are relaxed, oxygenated and all that stuff. He may want to think about using for an hour when he gets up in the morning too, to help out from any grinding/clenching from sleep.
So, did he like it? Have you tried it?
Have a good nite!

I actually have a tens unit that I have had for my back for some number of years. I know the one you use for your TMJ is different though. My tens works pretty well on my back so hopefully it will help with Mike's and your TMJ.

That's exactly what tmj patients need is someone who spends some time and really cares about what he's doing. That's great that hes taking your case to LVI and I'm sure having a few people discuss it cant hurt huh? I've dealt with a few really awful doctors and I have learned my lesson to find someone highly recommended. I'm going to have to ask him about these tens units cause my jaw is still so tight and sore and just wears me out sometimes you all know how that is. It's nice to find this board again and chat with some people who are going through this so depressing sometimes huh? Anyway take care all and talk to u soon.

Hi Cheryl!
Oh... it is 79 degrees right now... with 20% humidity - - - am I awful or what?!
Say how did the tens go last night? Could Mike feel a difference and did you try it out?
Well, almost done putting the gallery back together... now it will take a week to the house back together! The gallery is the front part of the house... so everything in the gallery came into the house while the floors were getting done ... the house now looks like a tornado struck it!
All we know is our little Bichon is so happy to have her little spot until the desk in the gallery back!
Hope you are having a great day!

Hey Diane....quit bragging! It's 72 degrees here, with 70% humidity.
Your dog's probably been upset with you lately!
He used the tens last night. Pain level came down from an 8 to a 5. He had it on for an hour an a half. Tonight we're going for the full 2 hours! I tried it out for an hour, and I don't think that it's for me. My head actually hurt worse, I made sure that my teeth weren't hitting or anything. It made me clench more for some reason. I told him that it felt great, though. (Don't want him to think that for some it doesn't work....then his mind will take over, if you know what I mean)
The Neuro. dentist called me this morning, actually twice. He wants to bring him back in next week, tens him more, (he said including his upper back) and retry with coming up with a 'relaxed position'. He apparently didn't like how everything came out last week. I tell you, Diane, this man is a perfectionist! That's what I like to see in the medical/dental profession! If there's someone out there who can possibly help him get well, I think it'll be him.
Enough about all of this, how are you feeling? Still good, I hope? I keep thinking of you, and the others on the board, who have gotten relief, and know that this thing can be beaten. You all are an inspiration.
I hope you are having a good weekend!

Hi Cheryl!
Wow, 8 to a 5 in pain. That is great! Yep, I did the full the two hours, if he keeps using it, the pain level will just keep dropping -
I know that when I first began to use it, I would get all over headaches, not real bad, but an irriating headache, but it ended quickly.
CHeryl, this guy sounds great, I think you have someone who really really cares about Mike and his pain. Wow! LVI is going to be looking at his case!
I am so happy for MIke and you. This is so awesome.
Now I think my guy is going to LVI this next week too, that should be interesting huh?!
When I see him monday I am going to ask him about someone up in Arleen's neck of the woods. I think that Heather found someone in Calif. I looked at his web site and he looks great too!

Diane,
Glad to hear that you're still good, other than needed a minor adjustment. I'm looking forward to using the tens on him again, tonight. I figured that if he continues to use this on a daily basis, it should REALLY start relaxing those muscles, so I do hope he sees more relief in the future.
Wouldn't that be sort of funny if our two dentists discussed him?! I feel completely comfortable with this new dentist, much more than probably everyone that he has already seen-combined!
I was telling my husband, last night about Arleen's 60 dollar charge for the yawning advice. He couldn't get over that, he said that we're all in the WRONG field! Geez....just when you think that you've heard it all! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif
Talk to you later,
Cheryl
