Ouch! My jaw has been killing me the past few days. I'm suppossed to go in for a spint adjustment on the 10th, but I don't think I can wait that long.
When I look in the mirror, I can see my teeth don't line up, and my jaw is shifted over really far to the left. Anyone else with this problem?
Happy 4th!

Hi Kittencat:
I've got part of that problem - my teeth also don't line up, except I don't feel the pain in my jaw, I feel it in my teeth and gums.

My problem started with having 2 fillings re-done close to 2 years ago. Just recently I was diagnosed. I was told the condyle on my right side is forward and the one on my left side is very far back. I knew after my fillings were done that my bite was completely off, but didn't know for a very long time why. I had one of the fillings re-done, and the other one adjusted several times. I've got an appt with a neuromuscular dentist in 2 weeks and I'm hoping he can get everything back to normal, with splint therapy.

Good luck. I hope you have a good dentist who's able to help.
Happy 4th,
Arleen

hi kitten

i have the same problem! when relaxed and just barely touching my teeth, they line up. but when i clench they shift back and to the left. my bite is 7mm away from where it should be when clenching. it sux that you have to wait until next week to get your splint adjusted but hang in there kitty!

When my face has muscles spasms, sometimes I've felt my jaw pull and shift back and forth, especially on the left. Sometimes it also pops too, It feels like an explosion went off in my face when it does that.

I don't have a splint as of now, but when I open - I can see and feel the joint "buldge" on the left, while the jaw/chin shift (deviate) way to the right !! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/redface.gif One dr. said that my loose ligaments allow the joint to move "around" the restriction - and this is why I don't lock - but have tremendous pain -noise and spasm. It's the jaw taking a 'detour' to get where it wants.... does that makes sense?
Take care, RobynR

Yeah, mine is shifted far to the left. My husband said he doesn't notice, but I know that is BS because I've had many people tell me that they can tell, and I can see it in recent pictures.

I took my splint out and put my old nightguard in last night, and the pain went away. So I know that it's the splint. Can't wait to get it adjusted.

I was bummed this morning, REAL BUMMED! So I forced myself to going for a long walk, I used to be a runner, but anyway, it helped so much just to get things off my mind. I walked almost 4 miles. Pretty good for a 34 year old with a busted jaw! ;-)
Take care, Kitty

Hi Navy:
This is the best example I have heard. It does sound like an explosion went off inside my head when my jaw pops but I hadn't been able to find an example that fit but this sure does. Sometimes finding the words to explain something is difficult.
