I have a question about TMJ and politics. Before I got TMJd last year I never even heard of TMJ. Now, along with many of you, Im finding that one of my biggest obsticals and causes of stress is that no one really understands what it is or how much trama it causes. I've even had one of my pain managment dr.s tell me "don't obsess over it, ignore it." Employers, insurance companies don't understand which creates hell for us all.
I've read that Senator Harkin once helped with studies for TMJ. I am wondering if there have been any campaigns or lobbying of TMJ sufferers to hound nominees for Congress, especially in the months leading up to November elections to do more to generate legislation, awarness or funding for research.
There are over 1,000 postings on this board alone and, from what Ive read, 10 million TMJ suffers in the USA. We seem to be a pretty vocal (even if we can't talk comfortably) group.
