Hi TC!

It's not in your profile. By the time i find out anything, you will probably have an appointment anyway. My chiro does new patient consultations and explains everything ...and you get to ask questions and voice any cncerns you have. hopefully you'll be able to do that with the one you choose.

I'm beginning to wonder if i shouldn't leave well enough alone. It seems like with all the dentist visits and therapy i've had for my tmj ...all of a sudden it seems sore in the tmj area (which never bothered me before) and today I started getting some ear symptoms. I have had inside work and outside work done for the tmj twice in the past week, PT, 3 dental exams, molds made of my teeth, and adjusted 3 times by chiro. I'm not in excrutiating pain, it's just that I wonder if I wouldn't be better off leaving well enough alone. I'm also concerned if putting me in a splint won't make the joint hurt worse. Yes, it's displaced, but, it wasn't painful clicking before. I see the neuro tomorrow, but, i'm so sore tonight, i'm thinking of reschedulint, it takes soo long. He wants to do molds tomorrow and then send them off to the lab and then put them on an articulator. That's the same thing my general dentist is doing for me now. So, despite everything, dentists still do much of the same things. It's just more expensive when some people do it. Tomorrow is my third time and we are doing molds and records. i have no idea when we get to the neuro consultation and the way things are going a splint is probably a good 3 or 4 eweeks doen the road. I just got back from the movies with my husband and son. I want things back the way they were 18 months ago. I'm hearing from some people that sometimes things have gotten wotse for them from treatment. i'm also concered that after spending $5,000 I'll be worse off than I started. Also, when they start all the MRI's and other tests. I wonder just how much those test results really mean. Sometimes what shows on an x-ray doesn't necessarily give you pain. There are people with arthritis, displaced discs, etc and no pain. With the arthritis, it doesn't have to be crippling, sometimes you can get it under control, the bone remodels and that's the end of it. i'm not going to get upset until I actually experience excrutiating pain, can't open my mouth, or it really affects me. Tjat may or may not ever happen. Today when I started getting ear symptoms, my chiro adjusted me and it helped a lot. Anyway TC. I hope you had a great weekend visiting your Mom. I hope yo are feeling better today. If that splint isn't working for you, then you need to see your dentist and tell him. You spent a lot of money with him and he should answer any questions you may have.

Take care!

Thanks Navy.

You just do whatever you think is best. If, for whatever reason, you decide not to begin the treatment right now, you can always go back later if you get worse. I hope you feel better tomorrow.

Good night,
TC

Navy,
Excuse me for chiming in, but what you just said goes back to what I said in a previous message--if you are not in terrible pain, and what pain you do have is alleviated by physical therapy and chiro, why not just stick with that for a while? Why force the issue? If things degenerate, you know the options you have, and can proceed from there. If my wife was able to manage her pain through PT and chiro, we would not be chasing around from doc to doc. Again, your options are open--you can always return to the next phase of treatment for this affliction IF THINGS GET WORSE, which would be pain not managed by PT and chiro.

Hi amateurdoc!

My concern is that I am having trouble with the dental work, that causes the muscle spasms, and some tmj symptoms. This past week I developed a new symptom. Everytime I swallow it feels like pressure is going off in my ears. Then there is the problem of the bite being totally off. Dr. A said that there were interferences and that the crown (surprise) was one of them. My PT is done as they felt that they were just maintaining me and insurnce won't pay for that. Yes, i can be helped by PT and chiro, but, I still have the TMJ problems and I have to go for treatment all the time. I just want my teeth fixed. I have nice teeth, it's amazing how a crown and 2 replaced white fillings, and some equilabration to try and get your bite straight (when your muscles are in spasm), can put a person through 18 months of pain and frustration in getting things back to normal. I just want a dentist that can get me feeling comfortable again. I think the longer it takes for me to get the right treatment, the worse the tmj is getting. I can't close my mouth so the teeth all touch, because if i do, I have to close to the right ..which is probably what's causing the problem on the left tmj. I know i did not have a displaced disc before the dental wotk. I think it all started with the pain and muscle spasms. Yes, I have given thought to what you said. There are days I want to do just that ...but, I still have to get my dental work straightened out and as Arleen can tell you, once you have tmj, it's hard to find someone to do that. My friend, the chiro's wife, asid that Dr. A taught a class when she was in massgage therapy school. She called him a tmj specialist. I'm hoping that they don't find anything major wrong and I can get treated and back to my life soon. I am not the person I was 18 months ago. i spend my life getting treated for tmj.
