Hi Everyone: http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/dance.gif
I got my splint yesterday. I'm telling you what a difference it has made so far. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/dance.gif I don't have to wear mine while eating. In fact, he said to wear it only about 12 hours a day but that I should judge and if it seems I need it more then I should wear it more. I am totally amazed, no killer headache today, less ringing in my ears and I slept like a rock last night and when I got up this morning my jaw was NOT aching or jammed. :bouncing: He said that I will be in this splint for at least 6 months. I see him again next Friday for an adjustment and he said if need be he will have me wear it more hours. Mine is a bottom splint, clear plastic with two little metal wires with little balls on them, one on each side. He said that he uses this type because they hold up better and work better especially for adults. I was there for 2 1/2 hours yesterday. He is a real perfectionist. I am thanking God for the relief I have found already. I really think I made the right decision on going with this orthodontist. :bouncing: http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/blob_fire.gif :bouncing: http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/dance.gif

Wow Tiffany!! I am so happy for you. It is wonderful that you are already noticing a difference. 12 hours a day isn't too much at all either. It seems like the splint would be less likely to permanently change your jaw position (if you don't want it to) that way. Congratulations!! :)

That's terrific that you already have less pain and ringing, Tiffany. These are very encouraging and exciting news for you and others who are seeking help. Is this a neuromuscular splint? I wish you continued progress. Alex

Hi Tiffany:

That's wonderful!!! :bouncing: And amazing that you've noticed a difference already. You mention wearing it 12 hours - do you sleep with it? Also, does it cover all your bottom teeth, or leave out the front few?

It looks like one by one people on the board are getting help. Very encouraging. I'm thrilled for you.

Tiffany,

I'm so happy to hear you noticed an immediate change.
I know sometimes when we post that we feel better in a few hours or a few days with a new Splint, it's hard to believe. (It would be hard for me to believe if I hadn't experienced it as well.)

I hope as always, we continue to see more and more posts such as yours.

Tiffany,

The splint you got sounds like the one I have had for the past year. the only relief I have had is less ear plugging but I'm wondering if mine isn't quite right because it was made by a regular dentist and was never adjusted.

I will be getting a new one on the 30th from my neuro dentist. I hope this time it will be right as it will be my third one.

I hope you continue to feel as good as you sound!

Grace

Hi Cheryl:
I am feeling very encouraged by the progress so far with my splint. I know splints are not an overnight cure but not having a killer headache the last two days helps so much.

TC:
The reason my orthodontist said to start out with 12 hours a day is because he doesn't want my jaw to get to where it depends on the splint so much. He will probably have me wear it more hours after I see him next week because I notice after I have it out for about 2 to 3 hours my jaws start to hurt alot but once I put it back in the muscles calm back down.

Alex:
I am seeing an orthodontist for treatment, the splint he made for me is an occlusal orthotic device.

Arleen:
Yes I do sleep with my splint. I put it in a few hours before I go to bed each night. I have been wearing it during the day too because it calms down the muscles and reduces the pain. My splint covers all my bottom teeth. It's very thick and it comes out pretty far in front. The only way I can really describe it is that it has like this ledge out front that my teeth sit on. He said as he adjusts the splint it will get thinner. Right now it is kind of hard to close my mouth when I have it in because it is pretty thick.

Diane:
Oh yes, it was so nice to be able to sleep last night and wake up this morning without pain in my jaws and neck. I would never have thought it would have worked so fast. I am truly so thankful and excited.

Michelle:
Oh yes please do keep me in your prayers. I continue to pray that this splint works for me. It would be such a blessing.

Cymy Sue:
You know, your success with the splint therapy really encouraged me to try it again too. Sharing your story on this board helps so many people. I am so glad you post on this board. So, you also had some good results pretty quickly after you started your splint therapy too? That is so great. Like you said, if I had not had the experience myself I would have found it hard to believe too.

Sue:
You know, I didn't think I would ever get to this place with my TMJ. I thank you for sticking by me through all this turmoil. How are you doing these days? Is your splint still working well too?

Grace:
About 9 years ago I had an upper splint made by a regular dentist and he never adjusted it either. I finally had to stop wearing it because it just made things so much worse. It caused more pain than any good it did so I think that an improperly made splint possibly does more danage than good. I'm glad you are getting a new splint soon too. Let us know how everything goes when you get your new splint too.

Kim:
Thanks so much. I will certainly keep everyone posted on my progress.

Hi Jill:
Thank you so much. This is the first time in years that I have had any hope. I owe this board for giving me the strength to keep searching until I found help. If it hadn't been for you guys I probably would have killed myself because I was so hopeless and in so much pain. You guys mean the world to me. You are all so special.

((((((((Tiffany)))))))) it is so nice to have this board to be able to speak with others who understand rather those at home that don't. I may not post that much here but believe me I read it every day. Autumn set me up with a great OS and I have some hope (hopefully when all my dental work is complete I can go back to working on the TMJ stuff).

I am glad and grateful to all here........Jill

Hi Jill:
This board has been my saving grace. Having others who understand what I'm going through means so much. It's so great that Autumn set you up with a good OS. How much longer before your dental work is completed and you can being TMJ treatment? I'm sure you must be anxious to begin your TMJ treatment.

I still need to get a crown done, 2 more filling (replacements) and scaling on all 4 quadrants. Yuck!! Hopefully soon. Knock on wood, my TMJ has been pretty good through all of this. I have been under splint therapy for alomost a year now and it's finally working!!

Thanks for asking......Jill

Hi Tiffany ~ I am so happy for you! Did you say that you are seeing an orthodontist? I am looking into that myself right now because I might have some med coverage if my doc sends me to an ortho. You have just given me hope that I too will get relief from this horror...thank you for sharing your experiences with us...
Take Care, Lucy

Yes, I am seeing an orthodontist for treatment. I sure hope that your medical will cover it if you are referred to an orthodontist. I feel so honored that I have given you hope by my post about my treatment. This list has been a life saver to me. If I had not found this list I might not be alive today. I was so discouraged and I felt that I might not ever find help but the people on this list gave me hope with their success stories. Their stories gave me the strength to continue on until I found help too. So, I hope my story can give you that hope also.
Tiffany
