i have never beed diagnosed with tmj, but am pretty sure I have it. I am going to a doctor today to be referred to a neuro. spec., but what if my symptoms are this? First, i always have headaches!!! Vertigo, dizziness, vision problems, jaw locking up, but this is the weird one....For the last 4-5 years I have had this weird thing happen in head. I will be laying in bed and it is as if someone wound up a rubber band and lets it go in my head. There is no pain, I suffer from headaches as well, but not neccessarily at same time. It is very scary!!! I am shook up for a few min. afterward. Please, does any one else know what I am talking about? I have been searching forever on the net trying to find someone else with same symptom. Please, let me know. It comes very unexpected and goes as fast as it came. It lasts for a second and then gone, I then have a tingly sensation in head for a few minutes. It is almost like a electric shock

you probably have TMJ. Find a good dentist.

Hi jojo & welcome,

First, I don't know what "they" are.
Second, I've had TMJD for a very long time and I've had these sensations on & off for about 10 years. They go & come and I just figured they had something to do with the TMJD.
I've done the same in research and come up with nothing. I have seen a little info on "Brain Zaps", but not really any explanation of what it is.

I will tell you that I have had all kinds of imaging over the years on my head for different reasons and they have found nothing wrong, except for the TMJD.

I seem to have them worse if I'm stressed. I believe there has been some other discussion on the board about this, but no real answers.

It's always a good idea to tell your Doctor about any new or weird symtoms.

Take care,
Cymy Sue

hi jojo

I think i know what your talking about. when i first got ill about 5 months ago i had this "hot-flashy-thing" that hit my like a tone of bricks. my god, it was scary! i thought i was having a stroke or something. mine started between my shoulder blades and very quickly moved up my spine into the back of my head. it almost felt like burning, but no pain....? i had a whole bunch of them in the weeks to follow and they never ceased to freak me out of my wits! did your limbs feel sort of rubbery too? let me know if yours are sort of like this, i'd be curious to see your side of the story.

anastasia,
first of all, thank you everybody for posting messages, now i am not feeling so crazy. yes, my whole body feels like gumby for a few minutes. i thought it had to do with the shock of it. because it is sooo scary!!!! i went to the dr today and she refferred me to a neurologist. i told her about this message board and how alot of the symptoms sound like me, but she does not think that is it. now, if they do a mri, will they be able to see the tmj, if i have it? also, did everybody else have problems getting doctors to go the route of looking at your jaw?

Hi:
I also have all kinds of odd symptoms like pains shooting through my head that feel like lightening just went thorough my head. They scare me too. On the MRI. An MRI of the head will not show the TMJ joints. You have to have an MRI of the TMJs done in order for them to see the TM joint. This MRI takes about an hour and a half, most of it is done with your mouth shut but about 15 mins is done with your mouth open. But in order to see the TMJs you have to have an MRI of just the TM joints.
