Hey everyone I am leaving for Vegas today so I can't chat long but I wanted to let everyone know how I was doing.

Well yesterday morning after all the finishing touches were made, the doctor finally gave me my splint. I felt very well afterwards. I don't know if it is because he tensed me for about a couple of hours (while testing me). He worked on my splint for about three hours making sure that it was to both our liking.
I don't really know how I feel about my splint. I have to wear it 24 hours a day. The only time I can take it out is while I brush my teeth. Yes, that means I have to eat with it.
Eating with it is very weird. But the good thing about that is it won't let me eat anything I am not suppose to. And for those of us who are trying to lose weight this is a good thing. So far I see that I am not snacking that often because it is taking me a long time to adjust to it.
For the first time I could remember I fell right to sleep and I did not wake up until morning!!! I could have still slept longer but I am going to Vegas.

One thing I wanted to let you know that was truly AWESOME!!! My doctor called me at 9:00 p.m. last night, just to see how I was doing. He asked me if I tried eating, do I have any pain because of the splint, do I feel that it is in the right place, and has any of my syptoms gone away.

So far I noticed that my headache was gone, and my ear syptoms appeared to be relaxed.

I thought that was really neat that he called to check in on me. i also was able to make an appointment a day after from when we get back (Monday). Which made me feel a lot better just in case I had any problems.

Oh one thing he did inform me was that if I hear any loud pops in my joints that is a good thing, but it means that my bite will be off. (I forgot the reason for the loud popping sound- Do any of you guys know?????)

I will keep the computer on until we leave so if anyone wants to post fill free!!!
Heather

P.S. Tiffany how did it go???

Yahoo Heather!
Yahoo!!!!!!!!!!! This is SUCH wonderful news! The best part, you slept like a baby last night!
I know, it takes a some getting use to eating with it!
Oh Heather, I am SO happy for you! Say, did you ask him about borrowing a myotronic tens unit at all?
Oh, we sure hope all goes well on your vacation!
If you find a computer while gone, let us all know how you are doing! Super big hugs Heather!

Hey Diane!!!
Yeah we tried to ask him about borrowing a tens unit, we even tried asking him about renting and buying one. He feels that at this moment the splint is the best thing right now. We think it is that he only has one unit. He has never had someone ask him about getting one before. I also feel that he does not know how to go about getting one for me. He has told me that they are very expensive. I went on line to try to find one but there are so many different types out there.

I hope it all goes well on my vacation also. the two big things is that I will be able to handle the concert and also my splint won't need to be adjusted (at least give me a couple days). So far it is doing okay. It is a little tight but it gives me the feeling of having to wear a retainer ( a very big one). I have taken it out and my teeth already feel a little lost without it. I guess that is a good thing.

Hi Heather!
Oh, we sure hope you have a blast on your must needed vacation! My splint was "tight" for a couple of days but then just settled right in. My mouth misses it when it is not in my mouth!
Okay, the tens unit. There is only one that I know to get and that is the Myotronic BNS-40 home unit. It is completely different then anyother tens unit. He can contact them directly. I paid $606 for mine, Mary I think paid $450 for hers and I think Cheryls was about 500 but her insurance paid for most of it. Other tens units do not work on the same principle as the myotronic unit. Oh, I am so happy for you Heather!
My first splint adjustment after he had it just right was about 2-3 weeks. Now, while in Vegas, if you need an adjustment, just pop into LVI :)
YOu have a great day, a great trip!

Thanks Diane!!!
We are all ready to leave. Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!
I am so glad that we were able to touch base before I left. I was wondering about you. It seems like your computer was able to get fixed. Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!
I wrote down everything about the tens unit so just in case this dissappears before I get back.
Heather
P.S. I will tell Meatloaf and Cyndi that you say hello :D

Hi Diane,

I also use the Bns-40 unit and like you, I've heard that it works a bit differently than most tens units. I find that this tens unit works very well for me...in fact to put it simply...it's a life saver for me many times !! It works on a lower frequency, which is more well suited to your jaw muscles (pterygoid muscles around your jaw joints & masseter muscles around the lower jaws). To me, this machine was well worth the money. If I didn't have a splint that worked for me, and only had to rely on one other 'therapy' to help relieve my pain, it would be this tens machine. Fortunately I have both, and a fabulous dentist, who is extremely patient with me and my condition :-)

Have a great day,

John

Hi Heather:
This is wonderful news! :bouncing: I'm so glad your splint is working out for you and also that you fell asleep and slept like a baby last night. This is just excellent. I got my splint yesterday too and guess what? It seems to be helping me immensely. Like you, I don't have a killer headache today and that is a welcomed relief. I hope you have a wonderful trip and that you have no problems while you are gone. :bouncing: http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/blob_fire.gif :bouncing:

Heather! Enjoy your trip! If you get a chance while on v.k. let us know how you are doing! We will MISS you! Hugs!

John!
I know, that is what I have thought about my Bns-40, if I didn't have a splint, it could hold me through.
I call mine my life saver! AND my fountain of youth - - it has removed a BUNCH of wrinkles on my face that were caused by the twisted muscles!
We are so lucky to have found our dream teams huh?!
You have a great day John!

TiffanY!!!!!!!!!!! yes! Your headache isn't bugging you! Oh Tiffany! Yahoo !!!!
You guys, this is so great, we are all getting help!
Hugs everyone!

Im having pain in different teeth all the time. I have not got my biteguard but my sister in law has a tens unit should I try it and if so how? Will it stop me from clenching so that my teeth don't hurt?
