Hi Jimmyt7,

First of all I would not exceed what the directions are on the bottle, unless your doctor told you otherwise. You could also ask your local pharmacist that question and they could help you. If you are taking any other medications, vitamins, herbs, or anything else, you need to check with your doctor or parmacist for interactions or side effects. Also, some pain relievers and meds are hard on your liver, so, be careful what you take.

Advil and other over the counter non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) can be hard on the stomach and can make ulcers worse. You may want to talk to your Dr. about Vioxx or Celebrex which work similarly to advil but are easier on the stomach.

Hi Jimmy:
I found Advil made my grinding worse. I didn't realize at first, but went off it for a few weeks, then took it 2 days running and my teeth and gums were so much sorer than they'd be in quite a while. Of course, drugs affect everybody differently, so you may not have this problem. I switched to tylenol, which worked fine as long as I wasn't feeling the pain in my sinuses.

Take care,
Arleen

hi Jimmy

i was taking 600mgs of advil for about 6 weeks to deal with cronic headaches and had no side effects except for urinary ones. taking alot of Advil long term can do some damage to your kidneys so consult your doctor before upping your dosage. how many mgs/day are you taking? the bottle says not to exceed 400mgs per day and i'd definatly follow those rules until your doctor gives you the OK to go higher.

*also take in about 3L of water per day to flush out your blood stream. if not Ibuprofin will do damage to your kidneys with short term use*

you have to be careful of developing ulcers while taking ibuprofen. also, i believe that if you use ibuprofen chronically, you can develop rebound headaches. personally, that happened to me - at one point, i was talking 6-8 ibuprofens a day. i decided that wasnt probably very healthy, so i stopped.. for about a 1 week afterwards, i had terrible migraines.. horrible migraines. ugh.

I take an average of 200 mg/day (Advil). On really bad days I take 600 mg/day. However, make sure you always take it with food so it doesn't do as much damage to your stomach lining.

You also want to be careful because if you take it everyday it can start to loose its ability to help, you will need more and more to get the same benefit.

I've been taking Ibuprofen this week, on a daily basis, and I am having a terrible time with heartburn and indigestion. Anyone else get these symptoms?

taking ibuprofen with food can help to dimish those symptoms, but i'd be careful - you dont want to develop an ulcer. those could be warning signs.

i tend to get ulcer-like symptoms, too, when i take a lot of ibuprofen. sometimes i have to weigh whether i want jaw pain or stomach pain. i usually opt for the stomach pain. ;)
