Here is some history. I haven't started my splint therapy yet. I am supposed to start September 1st. I have two displaced discs. My jaw didn't grow enough when I was little. I have always had a lot of popping in and out and some headaches and muscle pain. But this morning I woke up and couldn't open my jaw enough to fit my thumb in. This has never happened before. I feel a lot of pressure and pain when I try to open it further but only on the right side. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/confused.gif Why would this happen? and Why now? I didn't do anything to it! grrrr. TMJ sucks!

we have very similar symptoms - i also have an underdeveloped mandible. altho, i have a pretty good opening.

maybe your muscles are in spasm or your discs are permanently displaced, which may be causing the dramatic limited opening.

have you tried cold or moist heat?

- saaraah.
