does anyone use skelaxin for muscular pain?
in the past, i've only used 1 other muscle relaxant, flexeril, but it didnt offer that much relief. i was also told that it's only supposed to be used in the short-term.
anyway, i was prescribed soma, but apparently it's not made anymore in canada. im still researching and trying to find an appropriate muscle relaxant. funny how it's up to me to find good pain meds...
anyway, i've only been taking vioxx [2x/day] and ibuprofen -- mainly, tho, i just live with the pain. the vioxx doesnt seem to do anything, but the ibuprofen [funny enough] helps with the actual joint pain or frontal headaches, but doesnt touch the muscular pain at all.
btw, it's a very bad idea to mix vioxx, ibuprofen, and wine... go me! :| hehe
well, any info/opinions about skelaxin would be appreciated. thanks :)

I had tried it years ago for my headaches and it did nothing at all. However when my jaw pain first started getting bad, my OS put me on Skelaxin during the day and 10 mgs of Valium at night. It worked GREAT. I was almost painfree for about 2 months. I even went off the valium and just used the skelaxin for a month or so.
Then after an exam, a flare kicked in (they ALWAYS do after an exam) and it started to no longer give me relief.
But it did really help for those few months.
You know we are all different when it comes to meds and what helps...but in my opinion it couldnt hurt to give it a try...unless its extremely expensive or something. Maybe your doc could give you some samples?
Hope you find some pain relief

It is extremely expensive. $154.00 for 90 pills after insurance paid. It was prescribed to me for back problems. I think it is a very mild muscle relaxer, unlike flexeril, that makes you very groggy. I am also on neurontin and in my opinion the neurontin is the better of the two, of course....expensive. Neurontin is an anti-seizure drug but it works for nerve pain and skelaxin is for muscle spasms.
Neurontin puts you in a fog till your system adjusts to it but once you get past that point, I think it does wonders. You start at a low dose 100mg and can work up to 3500mg a day or more depending on where you hit the comfortable mark. I was up to 1200mg a day and was beginning to get relief. Then my mother died and I was a basket case. I was so sick to my stomach, I quit all meds cold turkey. I ended up in a world of hurt so slowly trying to get my self back together. Sorry for my tale of woe.
