Hi Everyone:

Some of you may remember me posting a while ago about my noisy neighbours. I live in a townhouse, and my bedroom wall, and our den/computer room is common with the neighbour's.

There are several teenagers would like to play their music loud. They don't play it loud as often as they used to (although sometimes it's still really bad) but I'm also lots of low noise, like humming, rumbling, whizzing. It's these low sounds in particular that drive me crazy with my TMJD. I thought that was bad enough, but things have gotten worse, and I don't understand it and I need some help.

About a month ago, for several mornings I was in a deep sleep, only to all of a sudden be wide awake, without hearing a sound. It felt like my whole body inside was vibrating, my heart and stomach felt like they were racing. Yet I didn't hear a sound. Since that time, I've gone off all medication, thinking that could be doing it. I've slept on floors in the hall, livingroom and washroom, and still I feel this vibration in my body. I'd think I was going nuts, except when I look at the water bottle on my desk, often the water is swirling in circles, so it's some kind of noise vibration. And my body can feel it speed up sometimes, and sometimes it feel more calm.

I have tried taking clonazepam, cough syrup, some other muscle relaxant, etc. so that I can get a decent night's sleep, as on average I've slept 4-6 hours per night in the last month. I'm a wreck, my TMJD problems have increased. The drugs will initially knock me out, but even they don't override the vibrations in my body and I wake up hours ealy just shaking inside.

I think the teenagers have 2 sound systems, or got some new equipment that they didn't have before. I'm sure some of it is my sensitivity to noise and sound vibrations, but I don't have it all the time, and can sometimes hear low rumblings (likely music) when I experience this. Sorry to ramble, but I'm at the end of my rope. My nightguard is not the best to begin with, so it adds to my pain but stops me from grinding. However, sleeping for however many hours with vibrations in the air, can't be good for my teeth. They've been much sorer than usual the last few days (fitful nights' sleep don't help) and my joint and up my cheekbone are starting to hurt.

Reasoning with the neighbours and calling the police, or city about the vibrations is out of the question. I've checked into all these options, although my dad will talk to the neighbours again (which is usually to no avail). Tonight I may try moving the car to the parking lot behind our house and sleeping there.

Anyway, if anyone can offer me help in dealing with the vibrations, I would really appreciate it. It isn't noise - but likely sound vibrations (from bass? amplifier? ceiling fan (would a ceiling fan do this?). I was thinking of getting an allergy medication today, such as reactin and trying that. I used to take that several years ago, only when I was having a really bad allergic reaction, as they knock me out. I'd take a 1/2 at bedtime and be out to lunch till noon the next day. Does anyone know it reactin will cause grinding?

Thanks for listening, and if I'm rambling I apologize but I just can't think straight anymore, between all the drugs and lack of sleep, and TMJD.

Take care,
Arleen

Arleen,

I'm sorry that you're feeling worse lately. That's terrible that you have such inconsiderate neighbors. I did some checking on Reactine and this is what I've found:

Hi Cheryl:

Thanks for your response. Boy, that list certainly was scary. I'd looked online but couldn't find any info. The side effect that particularly concerned me were the ear ones (tinnitis), as I don't want to add to my current ear sensitivity. The last time I took reactine I didn't have all these problems so wasn't concerned about the few side effects I suffered.

Won't be sleeping in the car tonight - maybe tomorrow. I'm sleeping at an aunt's tonight, so hopefully I'll get a decent night's sleep.

Nobody can help with the neighbour problem, but maybe others who suffer from this body vibration sensitivity (if anyone does) can tell me what drugs, or homopathic or other treatments they use. Acupuncture isn't helping me sleep.

Hope you're doing well Cheryl.

Take care,
Arleen

Hi Arleen,

I am so sorry you are still having trouble with the neighbors and that your symptoms have escalated this way. Oh, Arleen, it breaks my heart to think you are considering sleeping in the car!! :( Please, can't this Aunt of yours let you stay for awhile? Anything to get you better and to get you some rest.

Hope you sleep well tonight. Hugs,
TC

Oh Arleen...this is awful. Your home should be your your place for peace and healing. This seems so unfair. I agree with TC - if your aunt will have you, move in for a week - or if there is an inexpensive hotel nearby - take yourself on a mini vacation - just to recoup a little. It seems this is beyond the noise --- but the vibration and the way it's effecting your central nervous system. I am sensitive too...and can hardly understand why driving at higher speeds completely makes me loose my equillibrium. The jaw issues must impact our whole center of gravity and perception of sound/vibration.

I'm glad your aunt will be hosting you for a bit. Let us know how you do there.
I pray you get a restful night's sleep.

Arleen,

I feel for you....sorry you are having a hard time...

What about trying melationin....start by taking 1/2 of a milligram about an hour before bedtime....if you still don't sleep that good, keep adding 1/2 milligram for a few nights...maybe up to 3 milligrams...

Sleep well soon...

Sandi

Oh Sweet Arleen, I am so sorry you having to deal with this friend.
The noise sensitivity is so bad. Poor Al, he would try so hard to be quiet for me. During the day, before I started getting better, we would have to have the cooler running to keep the gallery cool for customers, the vibration drove me nuts Arleen. Then Al would have to do all of his cold work on the glass, way, away from me. It is like my body would take on the vibrations. It isn't the sound, it is the vibration.
Arleen, I do not know of any drug that is going to help with that. I do know that when I would take Tylenol on top of the noise sensitivity, I would just shake, my whole body. It was awful.
Sweetie, Big, Big hugs are going your way. QUiet, non vibrating hugs.
Diane

Hi Everyone:

Thank you for your comments. Sandra, thanks for the melatonin suggestion. I've tried melatonin before, and it works oddly on me, maybe because I have allergies. The first night I take it, it knocks me out, the second night only for a couple of hours, the third night not at all. Very weird.

I got some Neocitran today. It helps me sleep when I have a cold, so I'm hoping???

I stayed at my aunt's last night. It was sheer bliss. You never saw a person so excited about silence. We made up the couch in the den. It's not a pull out or anything, but with the back pillows off it was wide enough and very comfortable. After she went to bed, I just sat on the couch and kept thinking "awwww, this is wonderful, awwww, awwwww." Now I'm back to vibration city, and will try the livingroom couch tonight. Tomorrow night, who knows?

Diane, was it tylenol with caffeine or codeine, or just plain that made you shake? I was wondering about some of the drugs I'm taking increasing the effect. I didn't take anything last night(didn't have to), but today my teeth and gums are killing (too much talking at my aunt's). I iced and tried to go without anything, but finally took a tylenol this evening, although it hasn't done much for pain relief. Also put orajel-like stuff on my gums. I try not to because after using it a couple of times, it makes my gums more sore.

Anyway, thanks all for listening and understanding. Anybody got a spare room?

Hugs,
Arleen

Hey there Arleenarooney!
I am happy you got some good sleep! Yahoo!
Okay, the tyelenol was regular tylenol. Not prescription, but just what you buy off the shelf.
Remember, that one Dentist gave me a muscle relaxer and it just made me shake like no tomorrow? Hmm, perhaps testing to see which med might be making the symptom worse?

Okay friend, it is late, time for beddie by time.
I hope you sleep, really, really well!
Hugs
Diane

Hi Arleen,

I'm glad to hear that you FINALLY got a good night's sleep and enjoyed the peace and quiet. Hopefully, your aunt's is somewhere you can go when things get rough.

We DO have a pull out bed on the sofa....you'd have to share living quarters with the puppy, though. Remember....she likes splints. :D

Take Care Arleen,
Cheryl
