Hi All...new here. Just for your info, and this is not hold true to everyone, I was diagnosed with TMJ after many years of "clicking, popping, pain...etc." I was at the point that every time I opened my mouth to take a bite of something like a hamburger, I would have to move my jaw back and forth to unlock it, so I could open it wider. Finally, after a move to another dentist, he told me to see a local orthadontist. After looking at me for the first time, the orthadontist came to the conclusion that my teeth were out of alignment. (I thought they looked pretty good myself)But remembering back to when I was in my early teens, I had a couple of teeth pulled to make room for the "fangs" to drop down into place. The only problem with that is the dentist should of put me into braces to align and fill up the spaces caused by the pulled teeth. But he didnt. So over the years my teeth moving around had mis-aligned, causing the TMJ that I developed later on in my 20's and 30's. The orhtodontist put me in braces when I was 37. It's now been 6 years since i had them removed and I have not had any problems with TMJ. It took me awhile to get used to a reshaped mouth, but I am pain free now. He even took before and after photographs and the difference was amazing. Maybe a simple thing as braces could help some of you.
