Hi Cheryl,

i just grilled my husband about the orthodontist appointment. Apparently the doctor mentioned putting an UPPER palate expander on my son too and braces. My son has a terrible bite too, plus he isn't getting his second two bottom front teeth in ...and he has had his front 2 teeth broken off, root canaled, and bonded. So, this is going to take a really skilled Funtional Jaw Orthodontist. We are not allowing surgery under any circumstances. The ortho hasn't even suggested it yet, but, I'm preparing my husband for his response if he does. My son will be 13 in December, I hope that doesn't mean he is going to have to have surgery done to fix his bite. I noticed TC wrote 12-18 depending on the growth. If I find out that my delaying all this because of my confusion with TMJ over the past 2 years has put him in a surgery category...I will forever have guilt. I guess I just have to wait and see what the ortho says on Wednesday. My pedia-dentist told me a couple of years ago that he might need braces, but, then I was also told that there was no rush. Now, I'm trying to learn about upper palate expanders. Gosh, by the time this is all over with, I think we could all become dental specialists ourselves. We would probably do a better job than some of these bozo's that have treated us (my present TMJ dentist is excluded :)

Cheryl, keep me posted if you learn anything that I need to know about these expanders. I would hope that this new Ortho wouldn't do anything to hurt my son though. By the way, how old is Mike ...surely his mouth is still growing, right?
