I am new to the board. my story began 10 months ago with an impacted wisdom tooth extracted by my general dentist. my mouth locked shut when i went home. i called him two days later and he never returned my call until 5 days later. i went to the office and he said my mouth won't open so he doesn't know what is wrong to come back on monday. i went to an er on saturday and they said i'd be fine take percocet for the pain. went to my dentist on monday and he said to come back next week it is still too swollen. i sought an oral surgeon who started me on muscle relaxers and heating pads for 2 months now my mouth opened 12mm. he did an antrocentis and released the jaw some more bout 23 mm. july had antroscopic surgery with not much more relief. steriod injections sept botox injections in oct. any relief outthere or am i just wasting my time. my ear hurts all the time and the muscles around my face kill. anyone ever get it from an extraction??????????

Hi, hyperextension of the jaw during an extraction can bring on a TMJ episode. I believe my problems may have started from hyperextension during a root canal. Hope it heals soon. Deb

Sham,
I think it would be safe to assume this was caused by the tooth extraction. Especially if you have never had this type of problem before. It is no surprise that the dentist has no clue or "says" he doesn't...You should bill him for your surgeries, big chance it is his fault!!!
Take care,
Elaine

i felt so alone before i found this board. i felt that i was insane. no one understood the pain. i looked fine so everyone assumes i am fine.
