Hi All,
The dentist called with the results of my Son's tomograms today. Everything is A-OK!! He said that everything turned out fine other than something about him having trouble with forward movement and a somewhat limited opening. He said that his problems are purely muscular in nature. He seemed very happy with the results and said that muscle problems are totally reversible. I had mentioned that I sent out his MRI's and so forth today, (as a hint to him) and he said that he sent his end all out on Saturday....boy, that man's on the ball! He's mailing me a copy of the tomogram results. As soon as I get them, I'd like to share them with you. Maybe some of you can help me to interpret this 'forward movement' thing, and exactly what it means. Thanks for listening.
Take Care,
Cheryl

Cheryl,
This is "GREAT" news. :bouncing:
I don't know anything about the forward movement, but I know I've read about it on the board. Marlene and others have explained it before.
The limited opening can be entirely muscular many times.
If the majority of Mike's problems are muscular, he can be treated successfully. Finding the right person is the hard part as you already know.
I'm so happy you got these tests and now know so much more than you did. ( I make this statement due to the reports from my own tomograms in the past. A good report with no joint abnormalities is wonderful)
I know the road to "Mike" being well, still seems long, but it's not as long as it might have been.
I will be praying that you find someone who "Truly" understands these muscular problems and knows how to treat them.

Cheryl,
I am so happy that the tomogram confirms that the problems are purely muscular. Now we just have to find someone who can relax those muscles!! Hopefully this new fellow can help.
Take care,
TC

Cymy Sue,
I'm happy that these came out good, too. I'll do a search on the board for forward movement and see what I can find out. I still see such a long road ahead. Never did I think that finding adequate help would take this long. Thank you for your prayers. I hope we find that 'someone' soon.
TC,
I hope this new dentist can help, otherwise I'm at a loss for where to go next. I'm trying not to worry myself yet, he hasn't even gone over his things. I guess I just like to be prepared so that I always have an idea of what do if one idea doesn't pan out.
Thank you both for the warm wishes. I hope that you're both doing okay. I'm sorry to include the both of you in my reply, but look at that number of posts quickly rising below my name! :)
Take Care,
Cheryl

Oh Cheryl, that is such great news, it is now just finding the correct splint to get your son out of pain. I know it has been sooo long since this all started for your son, but with this information, you can now find someone to help get him out of pain Cheryl.
Just remember, it isn't about a title behind the DDS, it is about experience, it is about multiple disciplines up the dentists sleeve to help your son, if there is one thing I found out through this journey is that it takes several approaches to resolving TMJD pain, which do not include surgery nor drugs.
I hope you have a wonderful day, keep us up to date on your next steps.
Hugs
Diane
