One tooth is really sensitive and I noticed that the gum line has recessed about 1 mm. Is this a common thing with grinders/clenchers? If so, is there anything I can do? Thanks.

I have this too and am not sure why. My front teeth seem affected where they hit each other hard after bad dentistry lowered molars in January. I first got some swelling and then the gums I noticed went down a little on a couple of front teeth. A dentist told me shock to the teeth (from hitting hard) affects the gums. Interestingly, after on one side a molar was heightened so the front teeth on that side did not press so much into each other gum swelling went down on that side which makes me believe my gum probs (not major, the gums are healthy, but you notice if a gum goes down a little on one tooth) at the front are due to .
However I also read here somewhere in a recent thread (forget which though) that tmj can cause gum recession and even bone loss, which made me wonder if that could be beginning to happen with me. I don't quite understand the cause, would love to have more info.

Yeah, I think Diane posted her experience with TMJ and gums (sorry, bad memory).
Does anyone else have "bad" gums due to improper bite, clenching, grinding, etc.? Apparently some of my teeth have a "stage 4" gumline...I think they're all on the back molars too. My perio/relative said that I should worry a little about my gums but my dentist said that I should get a coupla hundred dollars worth of work done (e.g. periodontal cleaning, full mouth debriment and peridex irrigation). I guess my questions are...is anyone going thru this situation and/or know if the above procedures will help my gums become stage 3 or lower?
I hope this makes sense as I took out my contacts, can't find my glasses and am hunched over my computer in order to see the screen. Plus I just took Flexeril so I'm feeling a little loopy. :)
