I have this problem since childhood. When combined with stress it becomes a disturbing
factor causing midnight awakenings. Recently I had urine and blood tests, kidney films and they were all normal. My urologist then wanted to see the results of the uro-dynamic investigation which is an invasive method to measure the bladder pressure and capacity.
I just wanna ask whether this type of investigation is necessary, has any infection risks or not, just to make sure whether this is something quite normal and necessary rather than being a serious investigation and whether he requests that to get more money from my insurance company or not.

im a girl,i think your a guy. ive got what sounds like the same problem and its such a bummer. ive done all that urodynamics stuff and 2 years later they are gonna put me through it again. I sure dont want to take any pills to damn it up. Im so worried about screwing up the natural balance of things in my body. although i guess going every couple of minutes isnt too natural. its worse at nite for me just before bed. strangely enough i dont have to get up in the nite (not very often). if i drank coffee i would live in the washroom. good luck with it, i hope it all works out for you.

i was just wondering how frequent is too frequent??? I have to go about once for every glass full of drink that I have...usually between 5 mins and 1/2 an hour after I have drunk it. I also usually have to get up at least once during the night...is this normal?

Well, its about normal for me! I always thought I had a small bladder but recently had an ultrasound and they said it was OK. I always get up at least once in the night - have done for years (I'm 43 BTW and I was born in Auckland, NZ!)

Haha...cool!! Yeah I'm from West Auckland - I'm only 17 though :p. Well at least that's sorta put my mind to rest - I thought I was going way too much, but I guess it's just different for different people.
Thanks

Hi guys, Im from Howick in Auckland! We all seem to have similar probs. I have been looking at a lot of sites on the web to gather info on bladder probs. My prob is that I go too often, probably every hour or more and sometimes its just a dribble. I am going to try and retrain my system by holding on. I have now been able to hold on for up to 3 hours. When I get the urge I just do a few pelvic floor muscle exercises and ignore it for as long as poss. We should be able to hold up to 450mls and only go every 3 or 4 hours.

Oh to go only every 3-4 hours! In the morning I'm shocking - every 30-60 mins. Some of its probably because I train in the morning so I'm making a big effort to be hydrated and to rehydrate but when I'm working out in the field its a damn nuisance. Go before you go they say - I do! And then again when I get there.....And its not like I am peeing small amounts. Oh well, an active metabolism can't be all that bad!

hi all, seems like quite a gathering of aussies and new zealanders. Well from the other end of the world (south africa) I just want to say what is it about going to the toilet while going to sleep and those early hours of the morning before waking up. I go quite normally during the day but while falling asleep I can go up to the five times in an hour until I eventially fall asleep. In the morning before waking (starting around 6:00am) I go again four or five times before finally waking up. If I have a nap in the afternoon the same thing happens. Does falling asleep/waking up have any effects on the body and relaxation??? Perhaps relaxing the bladder as well??? Help!!!! I would love to know the answers to this problem.

I'm sure there's something of that in there somewhere. As soon as my body starts coming awake, I start. I know when I'm running in the early am, my body knows it has to do a No.2 before I go. Maybe same sort of thing. But I can drink nothing from 1:00am to 7 or 8:00am and nevertheless pee 3 times in that time. It HAS to do with metabolism. I know mine is good from a calorie burning point of view but from a work field trip point of view it is the pits!

so does that mean because we go to the toilet a lot it means we have a good metabolism?

Well, that's my excuse. I think I have - I run and do weights and do eat quite a lot. I also try to drink a lot thoguh becuase of the running so I'm sure that makes me go more. I also notice that if I do a long run I must get some bladder bruising - its quite difficult to rehydrate after sometimes - it just seems to go straight through. Baldder bruising in runners is not uncommon, it can be bad enough to cause bleeding (ie pink urine, temporarily).
There's also a definite diurnal pattern - for me its between say 5 am and 11 am - after that it all calms down.

Watchman has your doctor checked you for interstitial cystitis?? Men and women get this disease. They need to do a cytoscopy.... If they suspectIC they must put you to sleep because someone with IC will experience a lot of pain. Look up interstitial cystitis its on the internet.... I have this and I'm on therapy right now, but it took lots of year of pain and frustation to find it....Good Luck
