View Full Version : Cystoscopy after-effects?

I am a female, and had a cystoscopy 3 weeks ago and was fine afterwards. It was negative but something showed on the cat scan that accounts for the drop of blood in my urine but nothing serious. What is scaring me now is that sometimes at the end of my urinating, it hurts a little, barely noticeable, though but enough for me to be concerned. I imagine if the procedure did damage, I would have felt it sooner. I wish I never had it now, because maybe there is some damage to the urethra and I sure as heck don't want another cystoscopy. Everything I have read on the internet says that the complication rate is very low and after-effects are extremely rare. Maybe it's nothing (there is no infection... I tested) but has anyone else had this? Maybe it just taked time to heal completely but it was fine until last night, and again, it's barely noticeable. Any comments would be appreciated.

For a couple of days after a cystoscopy it is very common to have burning when you urinate (sometimes really intense burning), but this is still going on three weeks later? Is it possibly related to whatever showed up in the cat scan?

If it keeps up, maybe see whether it is related to something else going on (a particularly frenzied day - my bladder really reacts to anxiety). Otherwise, it is hard to imagine the cystoscopy doing damage, but maybe something else is going on . . . so it might be good to ask the doctor.

No, nothing to do with what they found on scan, small kidney tumor, benign. I didn't feel anything in past few urinations. I guess I am imagining the worst, that the instrument damaged me. I know this is unlikely...the urologist is good and very experienced. I will see him if it persists. How does your bladder react deom anxiety? Do you get pain on urination?

When I get overly anxious one of two things usually happen. (First let me just throw in here that I have been through many medical adventures over the last year and a half, so I am probably paying a little too much attention to any little changes in my body.) Sometimes my bladder will not be emptying all the way, so it always feels like I have to go. Then that can lead to what feels like a little cramp in the lower abdomen. The other thing that happens is a little incontinence, which fortunately has never gotten very bad.

I hope you bladder keeps behaving!

I had a cystoscopy in March of this year. It burned after urination for about 2 days afterwards. My bladder reacts also to anxiety. After 6 Doctors and about $4000, the 6th Doctor told it was nerves. I now take Xanax. It is awful to have a problem with your bladder. I hope you feel better.
