Hello all,

I just signed up. I need some assistance here, I have been of vics for 1.5 days cold turkey and I feel so bad. I was taking about 4-5 a day for 2months. I have so much tension in my neck and my lower back hurts, I have hot and cold sweats and feel like I have the flu!
I cant afford to take off of work so I am here doing the best I can, any advise on how to alleviate the symptoms and how long does this last for?

Thanks for all the help you can give me!

since you were only taking 4-5 a day for a few months you should be ok in 4-5 days but everyone is different......The flu like symptoms are the w/d's......bone pain, shakey, leg cramps, anxiousness, the runs, just basically feeling like total crap! Fatigue is another one.You are doing a wonderful thing for yourself and future by getting off them now...can you imagine if you had taken them longer(even one month more!) because the longer you take them and the more you take makes the w/ds worse.I am currently one and half months clean from oxys and vics...30-40 5mg oxys a day or 20-25 10/500 lortaqbs a day...whichever I could get my hands on.My addiction lasted 3 months and the w/d's were horrible because I also went cold turkey....you could try taking 800mg of ibuprofen 3x a day for the acheness also if you have any benzo's (xanax, klonopin, valium) you could take one if you REALLY NEED IT!!But be careful with those because they are also VERY,VERY addictive....I truely wish you the best of luck and keep posting it helps!

You are not going to die from this...just feel like you will!
You can have seizures from w/ds from benzos

Thanks for the information, I am a little scared and I think I am dying but I know I am not! No one evern knows that I have a problem, not my Fiance, family, friends or work. I kept this a secret for a while now.
Do you think it would help me to tell my family, confess to them? It all started with a bad dentist, who pulled my tooth and gave me vic es for the pain 20tabs, after a week I ran out and I called him up saying I was still in pain, so he called them in for me
and this went on a few more times until he caught on!

He said he watched a special on MTV about this and he knew what I was doing, no offer to help or nothing!

Thanks for the advise!

You’re into withdrawing now for probably 2 days, usually days 2-4 are the worst then it begins to ease up. I assume you were taking 5mg vic's which is about 20-25mgs per day. That’s really not to bad to get off from. It will feel like the flu no doubt but you will be feeling much better in a week to 2 week time frame I would anticipate. Like said previously we are all different and react differently but your consumption should allow you not to many problems. When you come off taking 10mg pills in the range of 20-40 a day would equal a painful withdrawal.

I've been on both sides so I know from experience LOL

Thank you all for the advice, I am glad I am not alone in this mess I got myself into!

I was actually taking 7.5 4-5 a day, so Today I feel very tired and achey, I woke up at 4am with a cold sweat and all my bones hurt me, but I am determined to beat this evil enemy of mine and be stronger than it!

I will keep you posted on my condition Tomorrow.!

Thanks again

If you have a loving supportive family, it would be a good idea to tell them. I just told my brother a few days ago and he has been very supportive and proud of me for going into detox voluntarily. It can be a relief to tell people if you are suffering alone. but sometimes it's better to say nothing. Only you know if your family can handle it or not. I didnt tell my brother for months because I was afraid he would freak out and harrass me nonstop but am glad he knows now.

It will last about 5 days. Take Aleve, and (very Important) Imodium AD. After 5 days you will be fine.

Hey, opiate withdrawals are not fatal just hard to get through but you have not been on that much for very long at all so I would think in a few days at the most you should be feeling fine. Its when you have been on them for more time that the w/ds are much worse, so you are really doing the right thing by stopping now vs. down the road, so you should be able to get off now with just some minor withdrawals, good luck!!! And stay strong!!!

Good job getting off those things. I was doing about 160-200mg of oxycontin a day(snorting) and i quit cold turkey, after almost a year of use. The withdrawl was horrible. Hot and cold flashes, sweats, shakiness, extreme restlessness, nausea/vomiting, flu, and more.... If I made it, you can do it too. Once your off, staying off is the hard part. You'll make it though, trust me. The first few days are def. the worst. after that, its all uphill. You'll feel so much better once your off them. Good luck with everything

Still,
Like imthatguy said, the hard part is after you detox because, even though your body is no longer craving the drug, your mind is going to remember how good they made you feel. They are very alluring.

That is why it is really important to get some sort of support system in place like your family (that's your call based upon how you think they will react), this board, AA/NA meetings, etc. Whatever it is, you need to have someone you can call and speak with when the allure of the pills gets really strong.

Best of luck. Take care and God bless!!!
