I drink alot of Soy milk with my protein shakes. I've heard that soy promotes estrogen, does anyone know if this is really true? Thanks.

I'm taking Soy for Menopausal symptoms, so your statement about estrogen might have meaning. This was recommended by my Chiropractor and my primary physician. I had started to have night sweats and sleeplessness. I can honestly say that I'm not having a problem with either of these now. I do not plan on taking any estrogen replacement during menopause. I've read several books on Menopause Without Medicine and I'm sticking to the Soy.

Hi Phil,
My wife takes a soy product --isoflavones as a menopause supplement in place of Premarin an estrogen drug. The box says each tablet contains the same amount of isoflavones as 1/2 lb. of tofu. I eat tofu and drink soy milk on a regular basis but not daily. I don't think soy promotes estrogen but it is a complete protein --I think it's good for you and reseach is being conducted to uncover the many health benefits.
I have read some about soy and it's health benefits. Isoflavones are a weak estogen in the body. It promotes health ----because it slows the action of our body's estrogen. As you may know if your body produces too much the harmone estrogen it can be harmful. This weaker phyto- estrogen does not promote excess cell growth that could concievable lead to complications. One Doc wrote that soy (isoflavones) may have a meaningful role in preventing prostate diseases. And, it is a low fat , no-cholestrol food that can assist in fighting heart disease. I'm for using it!!! :D
