Nutritionists that I have spoken to over the years have mentioned that although it should be safe to take amino acid supplements at the levels recommended on the product's label, it is far better to take in high-quality protein through your diet and have your body do the amino acid conversion on it's own.
Like anything else, check with your doctor for approval.

a waste of money? how? there is like 9 essential amino acids that the body needs and cannot produce on its own. so if you can get them in a supplement how is it a waste?

protein is all well and good, but if you don't have the digestive enzymes to DIGEST this protein, it is of no use to you and may even cause digestive/bowel distress. An amino prep may help alleviate this.
To chillin408: Like sternrad said, there are a number which are ESSENTIAL, and ARE NOT produced by the body. Therefore, where but from food or supplements are you going to get these?

Yes they're safe, i have a liquid form of aminos, it was cheap, but taste like crap! :) i'm waiting for high protein capsules, that would be great! so i won't have to drink/eat anything to get large amount of protein

Head's up everyone! This isn't the eighties or early nineties. No one uses that bull-butter anymore. Buy a bucket of high-quality whey protein, like Designer, or Optimum, etc. and get your aminos the easy way. Just take in your body weight in grams of protein per day.

I agree with Starbuck. If you buy this stuff don't go the cheap route. I've looked at a few brands and you absolutely get what you pay for.

well as an american citizen i assume that u eat a least 1/8 of the typical american diet which includes meat, cheese, etc. It is VERY rare in american for anyone to be not getting enough essential amino acids.anyways i dont even know why im responding, this is riducolous,if u must buy a supplement, just buy the cheapest whey or other complete protein out their, why waste your money on buying amino acids

Yo!
I've said this before, it's not the eighties anymore. Use Protein blends.
