Hi, I dropped off of the pill (Lomitrin- I think it was that???) about 2 months ago. I had horrible side effects (mood swings) and it just wasn't worth it. Before this I was on Ortho-tri-cyclin and never stabilized (chronic bleeding). Total I was on both pills around 7 mns and the second one for 3 months. I am now losing my hair by the handfuls (I've lost a third to half my hair) and am very very worried. I'm also taking Metabolift (1 or 2 per day, 6 days a week) for weight loss but am eating fairly normal (not healthy per say, but no diet or funky foods either). I have been on this pill about 1 yr. About 2 yrs ago I had a similar thing happen, but assumed it was b/c my mother had mixed hair bleach (very strong) with conditioner. When I visited her, I borrowed some "conditioner" and got quite a nasty surprise when it
turned my hair colors and my scalp hurt. About 5 days later I started lossing hair. This time, there was no accidental bleaching and I'm not sure what's triggered my hair loss. I didn't know if dropping off the pill can cause this even though it was 2 months ago or if it can be a side effect of the diet pill (ephedrin based) but don't know why it'd take a year to show up as a problem. I'm 33 yrs old and don't know what to do. Please help, I had great hair (it is my vanity) and am getting very stressed. I take no vitamines as I tend to be intollerant and throw them up but am wondering if they might help. Do you know of any hair problems with ephedrin and/or stopping the pill and are there any vitamines that help with hair? How can I take the vitamines so I don't get ill?

Have you tried taking the vitamins with food, maybe with your largest meal of the day. I hear that helps.

I also have some hair loss...Not bad but I seem to notice that it is alot worse in the cold weather months. I have NO idea why that would be but that's how it is for me.

It is a pretty normal thing in some woman. What causes it, is that when you were on the pill, your body was being "tricked" into thinking it was pregnant. During pregnancy more of your hair is growing. When you stop the pills, it's like "giving birth", many hairs enter the resting phase of the hair cycle. This may continue for six months when it usually stops.

Thanks, It helps to know that it can happen with the pill, but needless to say I'm not thrilled to be losing this much hair. 6 months from now and I'll be bald....

Try taking Prenatal vitamins, or there is a pill available online called Viviscal, but it isn't cheap. Do a search to find it.

Hello,
Both saw palmetto and nettle are herbal remedies for hair loss. Over time they should help to correct the problem and improve the health of your hair, and your health in general. The ephedra in the Metabolift, which is really just an herbal stimulant, probably doesn't help anything.
