I've been told by a pharmacist that if you eat proper proportions of fish twice a week, you really don't need supplements of fish oil to get the omega 3-6 oils.

In fact, I was told that these oils were non-soluble and tend to collect in the body if an excess amount is taken in, unlike Vitamin C, which we can pee out. Excess amounts of fish oils is not necessarily a good thing for the body and the pharmacist *almost* said it was a bad thing.

Can anyone comment on this?

I know that it depends on what type of fish you eat. Not all fish have much Omega 3's. The main fish that contain them are cold water salt water fish. so fresh water or tropical fish do not have much of the good oils. And from the reading I have done no one warned about to much. So I would say take the fish oil unless you eat lots of cold water fish.

tc, If you eat fish a couple times a week you probally don't need the supplement.I know I don't eat fish twice a week, maybe you do though. As far as the 2nd. part of your question, I believe "excess" is the key word here. If you take what's on the bottle though, you should be fine. Hope this helps.

Flaxseed oil is an excellent alternative to fish oil. It is high in Omega 3's. Be sure to use the liquid form, dose is one tabledpoon a day. It's in the cold section of your healthfood store.
