My doc has me on a bp medication that contains a diurectic. I work out and sweat a lot and then feel dizzy. He says I need a good electrolyte replacer with very low calories. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Use a salt substitute that contains potassium and be sure to eat banana's, oranges or tomatoes every day to help keep your potassium level up. Also be sure they check your potassium level about every 6 months to be sure that it is ok. The potassium level is the one that will be depeleted for you the most due to your BP medication. Your other electrolytes should be fine if drink pleny of water to rehydrate yourself after working out. Gatorade is a fine drink but don't depend on it to replace enough potassium to keep your levels up.

V8 juice is another electrolyte-rich product.

Something else to consider, esp. if your blood pressure has very sharp ups and downs, is diluting/watering down the electrolyte beverage or taking frequent sips during your workout. Too much electrolyte replacement, drunk too fast may also be unhealthy for you.

Drink Ensure. Or Pedialite (one bottle a day) works just as well for adults. Even try the Pedialite Pops (popsicles). I am very familiar with high BP and dehydration. Keep us posted on what is working for you.
P.S. Gatorade is great, but has a lot of sugar if you are trying to stay away from fat. Check sodium content so you do not retain water and cause increased BP too.
