Curious if anyone is taking the herb Rhodiola and experiencing any benefits?
I took it and it seemed to benefit my workouts, but didn't boost my energy like Eleuthero does, nor did it make me feel cognitively enhanced. Appreciate any feedback!

What brand of Rhodiola did you use?? Did you know that only two companies sell the real Russian Rhodiola Rosea? Only Russian Rhodiola gives the benefits of extra energy, stress reduction, memory improvement. If you bought your Rhodiola from another company than Ameriden or Swedish Herbal Institute then you probably got an inferior form of Rhodiola...probably the Chinese or Tibetan version.

I am currently taking 500 mg of Nature's Plus Rhodiola everyday. I'm coming down off of St. John's Wort to see how this works.
Farscape66 mentioned that Rhodiola was working for him. But he forgot to mention in this board that he's also taking SAM-e. I found this out by searching his name. He mentioned it in another board. SAM-e could be having a synergistic effect with the Rhodiola, and that could be why it seems to be working. Or, he could have just started taking the SAM-e, and the SAM-e could be making him feel better.
Also he mentioned April 18th that he was looking into taking Paxil, since his doctor recommended it. Why would he even need Paxil if he was feeling so good from the Rhodiola?
The minute you start combining substances, its really hard to tell what is doing what.
I've seen a lot of extremely positive reports on Rhodiola recently across the internet. It almost seems like its getting hyped up. A lot of times for a new product to break into the market, there needs to be a big stir on it. I'm not saying this is the exact case with rhodiola, but I'm cautious about it.
Well, I hope it works for me.

A while back, I tried Rhodiola and it semed to work great the first day I took it. The thing is, I had also been taking St. John's Wort and soon figured it had to be the combination of both, as Rhodiola is supposed to take some time for the effects to show. I didn't think it wise to be taking this combination so I stopped the SJW and the Rhodiola.

Rhodiola is great but no one here has talked about a very important difference between types of Rhodiola. There is Russian Rhodiol Rosea, Tibetan Rhodiola and Chinese Rhodiola. The only Rhodiola that has all the benefits attributed to it is Russian Rhodiola Rosea. Even high quality companies like Solgar are selling you Chinese Rhodiola which is an inferior form. So, if you are not getting the effects desired, you are probably not using the right type. From a recent article in the news, companies that sell real Russian Rhodiola Rosea are Ameriden, Pinnacle, Young Energy, Swedish Herbal Institute and Enzymatic Therapy.

I'm not too sure about one being more effective than the other. Sure, certain web pages say that, but I bet you they're trying to sell their own form of Rhodiola.
I've seen people have such great responses to Nature's Plus and Solgar.
I'm not sure those are russian rhodiola or not. But, they do standardize their ingredients to certain levels of particular compounds, like salidrosides , rosavin, or polyphenols. If they're standardized, then I don't think it should matter if its russian or chinese. Because if its the same molecule, its the same molecule.
just my $.02

Agree with soar2theclouds. You seem like you know your stuff, have a good sense, or both.

I'm sorry but you are both very wrong. There is a big difference between Russian, Chinese and Tibetan Rhodiola. Saying that there is no difference is like saying that Siberian Ginseng, American Ginseng and Asian Ginseng are all the same and have the same effect...when it is obviously not true. There are different species of Rhodiola like there are different species of Ginseng. They all have different effects on the body. That doesn't mean that Chinese or Tibetan Rhodiola is no good...you can get a good reaction from it...but, the one that has all the benefits attributed to it, the one that has been extensively studied is the famous Russian Rhodiola Rosea. It is superior to any other form of Rhodiola.

Jen23,
I would be a fool to say which Rhodiola species is truly the "best".
The only point I want to make is that the Chinese have been using various species of Rhodiola for thousands of years, and they use the same name, Hong Jing Tian, to describe the algida, crenulata, kirilowii and rosea species. Furthermore, according to one source, it was the Chinese who introduced the medicinal use of Rhodiola to the Russians in the 1960's, when they made and expedition to China in search of tonics.(1) And there are studies that have shown other species besides rosea to be active and beneficial.
Personally, I've tried various species, and they all have similar tastes and appearance. I actually thought the crenulata species tasted and seemed to agree with me as good or better than the rosea.
