Anybody try Alpha Lipoic Acid with any results (good, bad or none at all)? Any suggested dosages?

I'm interested in the same thing. I have read numerous articles that indicate S-ala is not beneficial for the body while r-ala is. So if/when you decide to purchase some make sure you go with the latter.

Yes I take ALA- 150mg 3 times day along with 2g Vit-C.
I hope you are already taking an Omega 3-6-9 sup.
Why are you thinking about taking ALA? Just wondering.

actually no, not taking an Omega supp. what are benefits? suggested brands, dosage, etc?
i read that ALA is huge in reducing muscle breakdown, as well as various other benifits, since there isn't much more than guesswork as far as info out there, i was looking for someone's results. have you had any noticeable benefits?

I have taken Alpha Lipoic Acid for over a year now and would never stop taking it. Even my husband is allways reminding me not to let it run to low as there has been such possitive results that it is noticeable to him. I have a Peripheral Neuropathy called Charcot Marie Tooth. This helps in so many areas I don't know where to start. It is supposed to be a great antioxidant. It helps your other vitamins do what they are supposed to do better. My neurologist says everyone with a muscle problem should take one. It helps restless legs, helps the imune system. I did research on nowfoods ( The sixth topic down I clicked on )I take 250 mgs. 2 x a day. Although I saw changes for the better at once a day even!!I canot say enough for this. It has helped my whole body not just my muscles. I do believe my staying on task is better also.

ALA is a fatty acid derivative with an extremely high antioxidant capacity.
It has been shown to help prevent neurological damage associated with amphetamine abuse. It also helps with sending glucose from the bloodstream to it's targets. As far as muscle sparing in regards to dieting, I was not happy with the result when I tried it years ago. Not happy meaning that it didn't do anything for me at all in that regard.

You probably used plain alpha lipoic acid. R-alpha lipoic acid is the only active form of lipoic acid. You must take some biotin with it, since it lowers biotin stores.

Hi there, :)
I've been taking ALA since about a week now. It supposed to be good for alot of things...what allured me the most of taking it was that I heard somewhere it may (!) make your hair grow faster . Not sure about that one though. Like I said, i've only been taking ALA for a week, so I can't really say now if it helps in that matter.
My dosage is 100 mg and the bottle states:
'Alpha Lipoic Acid acts as an antioxidant to help neutralize cell-damaging free radicals that contribute to oxidative stress and play a role in the premature
aging of cells. ALA also helps metabolize sugar in the body, especially in muscles, where it promotes energy.'
Hope that was of some interest to you.
