Hi,
I am currently on Yasmin birth control for hormonal acne and irregular periods. I used to take evening primrose oil (GLA), but I've heard that this interacts with hormones. Should I keep taking it, or do you think this would be unsafe on BC pills?
Also, does anyone have recommendations for any vitamins/herbs that are especially good to take with the pill, or that should be avoided?
Thanks

Hi mudpixie. I am currently on orthotricyclen. I was told that certain things can make it less effective such as combining it w/ certain antibiotics. I have heard a variety of things such as to take it with one thing and avoid taking it with another. If I were you I would talk to your gyno and find out for sure.

Hey mud,
Have you ever thought about taking supplements instead of birth control for your maladies? You might be zinc deficient if you have acne. You might want to look at your diet and see if that is contributing to your problems. Hormones are a really serious thing to put into your body to "treat" other problems that may be diet or stress related. There are many long term consequences to hormones.
Birth Control Pills do also deplete vitamins that are necessary.

I take many supplements. biotin (1), b5 (1), cla (3), omega 369 (3), mv with folic (1), bc (yasmin), and coq10 (1) all at once. Religiously for many many years. NO interactions or decreasing the effect of my bc. But each person is different

Deep in Thought,
Birth Control Pills can deplete or interfere with absorption. The vitamins and minerals I have read that are interfered with are Folic Acid, Iron, Magnesium,B1,B2,B3,B6,B12, Vitamin C, Zinc,Calcium, Copper, manganese and Selenium. How they interfere I can't answer because I am not a doctor, or a chemist, but they do.
So, this is important for people using HRT.
