How does this effect your metabolism and energy? The bottle say that that is what it is for, but does not say what it does exactly. I understand it must enhance them, but by speeding them up or what? Plus I want to know how many of you really find that B5 itself helps with skin ton on your face and with blemishes? Please help someone!

The B vitamins release and metabolize fat, carbs, and protein into energy. So taking them would release energy from fats and carbs, instead of them being stored.
The reason B5 helps with skin is because if taken as high doses, it will turn the oil in your face into energy rather than being released through your pores, since oil is a fat. But, you'd have to take high doses of B5, 3-10g a day, which can be costly... The average size is 500mg and 100 tablets. You can't really overdose on B5 since its water-soluble and whatever isnt used will be in your urine. The only side-effect I've heard of high doses is diarrhea...

So are you guys talking about taking the whole B vitamins in one pill or separate B's? Do the B's generally all do the same or like the starter of this topic is asking, B5 for instance, does it do something different than the rest of the B's?
Hope I make sense and someone has some advice.
cheers!

It's possible to over-do even water-soluble vitamins. If you're taking more than about 50mg per day, watch for side-effects - just in case. Here's a link for VitB3 [niacin]:

i want to find a b5 vite, but they do not actually say B5 on the bottle so what do they say? Is it safe to take the B complex (multi B vite for those who don't know) with the B5 on the side for my complexion?

B-5 is Pantothentic Acid.
It's best to take a balanced B Complex because taking too much of one B can cause a shortage with others.
Most B vitamins are made from the food we eat that is processed in our gastrointestinal tract. But, our food today is so processed and the fruits and veggies are grown on or in deleted soil that its difficult to get the real right stuff without supplements.

I'm currently taking a B complex vitamin once daily, in hopes of it helping out my hair (speed of growth, condition, etc)...I read that the B vitamins are good for hair! But the B vitamins are also great for energy and stress reducers, so far I'm pretty pleased with my overall health...

I boo booed again and forgot my B's for 3 DAYS!! Boy was I drained yesterday!! I took it again though and here I go on the road to spicen' up again. I have put them somewhere where I will not forget, but I still do somehow. They really help my energy so that is my biggest consequence when I fail to remember them. Hopefully they are doing this good with my metabolism too. I used to take Chromium Picolinate for my metabolism too. I felt like stopping though might slow my metabolism by throwing it of course. So I stopped it for all these years. Does anyone know if taking the Chromium P with the B comp will mix well? Is there any point? I also am still not clear as to whether the B5 along with the B complex will make me sick due to too many B vites. After all, the B complex really does not have much B5 anyway so I keep thinking it shouldn't hurt. What do you think?

Another thing that B vitamins help is joints. B-6 is what your body uses to make the lubricants for your joints. Without my B complex my elbows and wrist really hurt.

Really? That is very interesting. I should tell my mom about that since she has arthritis. Thanks, but can anyone answer the question about taking a B5 along with the B comp. I shouldn't get sick, right since B comp has such a low dose of the B5 itself? I am trying to clear my complexion. I never had a bad complexion until 1 year ago and I am 23 so I want to nip it in the bud so to speak.

Thanks for the response. NEON PEE is hitting the nail on the head. I made a joke to myself that I was surprised not to see it glow in the dark!! Ha Ha! That was my main concern regading the B vites. I mean who wants to be sick just from trying to be healthy. Is chromium picolinate really that beneficial in helping your metabolism? I stopped it for fear that it would speed it up to the point that when I go off it it would bring my metab. speed way down and make me gain. I figured with the B comp helping the metab then it would go well together, but I am unsure if that would be wise. Thought I'd ask.

Hello folks! First post here.
B-vitamins, yes. I have been using B's for many yrs. Currently i take a complete B-100 w/ every meal. That is proly 2 much 4 most people, but my condition requires much more than normal. I also take extra choline and 1000 b-12 + 200 folate sublingual once daily.
Yes, B-vitamins are considerd essential in the production of energy. The body converts them into coenzymes. Coenzymes are directly involved in energy production of our cells. If the body is unable to perform the conversion of vitamin to coenzymes (as is the case w/ liver disease) coenzymated sublingual b-vitamins are available at some health-food stores. Only moments ago i consumed a sublingual coenzymated b-2 (flaven mononucleotide).

Iam trying to get this B-vitamin thing straight. So lovelyme? Do you take B5 plus B complex? And how much do you take daily? Is B5 actually located in the store under B5 or something else? Thanks

If you look in one of the first few replies to my topic, somewhere there is the actual word for B5 that starts with a P. I have not bought B5 yet so I am just taking a B complex vite alone. I take 50mg a day. I am so new to the B vite to tell you the truth. Others who have replied to me are really keen to it though and have given me awesome replies!!

B-vita supp assist the entire body in it's metabolism of food>>>>>>>>>>>>>>to energy. When metabolism is performing tops, the liver and kidney will only fallow that order. Digestion should improve also. I am no certified anybody, but that's just the way i see it. A B-complex plus extra choline should greatly reduce fatty liver or gallstone occurance.

I am in my mid twenties and one year ago I was diagnosed with B12 deficiency. One week ago I started taking the B-100 Complex daily. I take 1200mcg/day of B12 + the 100mcg in the B-100 Complex. Before I started taking them I would be blah 90% of the time. I'm not sure if it is psychological or not but, I feel great! (Hope I didn't jinks it!) :)
B5=Pantothenic Acid
Pantothenic Acid is in the B-100 complex with a dose of 100mg.

I feel jipped because my B complex only has 50mg of B5 (Pantothenic Acid). Maybe that is why it is called B-50 Vitamins. Still, I want a better B complex. I guess that is what you get from a generic brand, but I started doubling up on them so it would make 100mg day dose even though the only high dose I want is from the B5. I make little sense so bare with me. So what is the prefferable B complex vite of everyone here?

Does anyone know if Vit-B deficiency is linked between, weight gain and/or low sex drive?
I was tired and would fall asleep if I had to stay in one position for too long. I could only accomplish one task per day, whether it be a long work day, exercising, going for a walk..etc I'm not sure if knowing that I was always tired and therefore limited, cause me to be a bit depressed and very stressed or if it was a Vit deficiency? I know that some is related. I feel like I use to, and that is one boost in itself. Now, I just have to loose some weight, so that I have the body I use to.......body, mind and spirit!

What are the symptoms of a Vit-overdose. What is a niacin flush?

As far as my vit.B intake:
I take 2-3 tabs of B-Complex per day for proper functioning of my CNS.
I also use 1-2g of B5 (Pantothenic Acid) - helps keep my skin nice, clean and acne-free.
And 50mg of B6 with my zinc tab for "healthy" adrenal glands and proper serotonin synthesis (B6).

:bouncing: So teach me! :bouncing:
I have food allergies and absolutley cannot eat a huge majority of fruits and Veg's.
I just started sublingual Methylcolobin (sp) B-12 1000 2 days ago.
I am hopeing this will help my Neuropathy get better.
My vitimen knowledge is very skimpy to say the least.
I AM aware too much B-6 can be very harmful.
I've heard scare stories about too much A, but on the other hand I've heard A from Beta Carotein is good?
I find myself reading every bottel of vits I've got and adding stuff together to see what totals of what I'm actually takeing.
It gets SO confuseing.
There should be a guide that says for evey mcg of B-12 you need such-and amount of mcg of each of the other B's.
Then, of course there is the calcium, D, magnesium, postassium.. how much of each to work properly with each? I have to watch the Mag content of Vits. It tends to have a bad effect for me.
Zinc? How much zinc? If a multi-Vit has 10 of Zinc is an additional suppliment of 50 an over dose? I've found I can take zinc if I eat while I take it. If I'm not eating then the Zinc suppliment makes me shake.
If I take all these other suppliment thingys then the multi's purpose is basically just the small minerals????
All those tiny little mineral doses?
I've heard "Not more" than 200 Selenium, cuz over 200 will poisin you.
At least I know I need 800 E and I know C is basically safe but, as you see, I am ignorant about the rest.
