Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has had any success in treating recurrent urinary tract infections with Cranberry capsules? If so, what specific brand did you use?

I have tried drinking cranberry or blueberry juice until I practically turned into a cranberry or blueberry, but have found them to be no help. (And I'm talking the unsweetened, even organic versions - still nothing). I hear that the capsules have higher concentrations of the key nutrients anyway, so I am willing to try them. But some brands are expensive, and I want to maximize what little resources I have by picking a good one.

So if anyone has any recommendations, please let me know.

Thanks!

My mother uses them faithfully and they really help her. Sorry I don't know the brand she uses, just thought I'd let you know that they do help some people. Good luck.

My daughter had problems with urinary tract infections as a teenager.

Her Doc reccomended OTC cranberry capsules, we bought CVS brand and they worked fine.

Any brand will work fine or you can just drink plenty of cranberry juice daily too. Also add Vitamin C aka ascorbic acid to your daily routine as this also helps people with chronic UTI's. Just be sure that if you do think you have a UTI that you get it treated promptly as left untreated a UTI can wind up going to your bloodstream causing more damage.

Hi,any brand of the cranberry capsels with work just make sure you have the Cran-max kind. I detest doctors, and get bladder infections very very frequently. Actually I have one now. I find that if I take 4 of the capsels and an anti-inflamitory (advil), a glass of water, and then 15 minutes later take 2 more of the cran-max, my bladder infection symptoms have gone within an hour. I swear by this routine, and it works a lot better than the perscription drugs that i was put on. I prefer to do things the natural way. I really don't know what is causing my bladder infections, but I'm on a low sugar and water diet, and it seems to be keeping the UTI low key. My mother made me cranberry juice from berries we picked, and didn't add anything to it but water. It's really nasty and tart, but it's all natural and sure to be a lot better than the cranberry cocktails you can buy. I hope this helps.

I'm actually still having problems, but have found that the cranberry juice (the unsweetened) and the capsules have been doing nothing for me. I seem to get more benefits from blueberries and from a product called D-Mannose. I am also taking a product called F.Y.I. for inflammation. Things were doing o.k. for a few weeks there, but I seem to have an infection again, so need to get this under better control.

Are you sure it's a bladder infection. I thought I was having one, but actually I'm allergic to latex. So maybe you are getting the infection but it's from an allergy.

I had problems for years but I've found what works for me and have had no infections for years. I make sure I urinate before and after sex. (this means I drink a glass of water before) I drink at least 6 - glasses a day. I take an OTC cranberry pill (can't get enough from drinking cranberry juice) if I notice anything suspicious and after sex if I haven't had the water.

I think the most important thing I do is spray the area after going to the bathroom with a few drops of tea tree oil in water. That makes sure there is no bacteria around to slip up the canal. I clean well like this before intercourse because any bacteria can find it's way inside and cause a UTI. Remember it is also really important that your husband also has very clean hands. (A tip from my doctor - a woman who says she's found that to be a really big contributor to UTIs.) It also eliminated my yeast infections.

Good luck!

Thanks for the tips...I am a guy however, and am not sexually active, so some things do not apply to me, but hopefully others reading this will be helped.

Yes, I am sure it is a UTI - got it checked a few times recently by the doctor. I just stopped using the antibiotics though, they caused me more problems than they helped.

I had yeast overgrowth really badly once, but managed to h get it cleared with a diet change and a probiotic (Primal Defense) which I still take.

Good news is, over the past few days, my urine has really cleared up alot. It is still a day-to-day thing, but lately it has been doing fairly well. It may be possible that a few other things I've added lately have been helping - a product called F.Y.I. (For Your Inflammation), and extra virgin Coconut oil that I add to my fruit puddings and smoothies. The coconut oil is supposed to have strong anti-microbial properties, and be aggressive against e-coli bacteria especially. The F.Y.I. may be helping to reduce any inflammation so that the tissues in the bladder aren't irritated. The D-Mannose helps too, I take it occasionally. Anyway, I'm still experimenting and praying, but things have been better lately which is a good sign.
