I was thinking about it today, and i don't think that the weight gain i've had are normal. Here's what i mean...
when i was in 1st grade, i weighed 88
when i was in 4th grade, i weighed 149
<gained 61 pounds during 3 grades. Average of 20 pounds a year>
now i'm in 8th grade. i weigh 180 pounds.
<gained 31 pounds in the 4 grades. Average of 8 pounds a year>
i'm not sure if the 180lbs is correct though. It could be more, could be less. Our scale is weird.
is this normal weight gain at all?

Welcome to puberty.

I went through the same thing--when I was a kid I was scrawny, and then as soon as I hit about 5th grade, I shot up to about 110 lbs, and then it was up from there. I was about 164 in 6th, and then I stopped counting--I was about a size 12/14.

Culture and diet have a lot to do with it, and I know that it can also be an emotional/hormonal weight gain. The thing is that you realize that you can take control of it now and reverse that trend. Whatever "normal" is doesn't really matter, as long as you feel good about yourself and can appreciate your body.

I'd say yes, its normal.

As a child, you're growing taller. Its pretty likely that you're going to weigh more. And the last weight gain was less than 1lb. a week .... thats less than 500 calories extra a week.

Yeah I'd have to agree with the others!
Puberty takes a toll on everyone. Your in the eighth grade and your this worried about your weight? Worrying about this now is a little extreme. Your probably what 13? Hon, it is good to stay informed about this, But I hope youur not using these guides that most of us use on here for your self. Your little young to use an adult BMI standard! I'd see if you had a nutritionist at your local heath department and ask her what is a healthy weight for a girl your age. Then ask her things you can do to maintain this,, with out undereating.
I am not trying too nag on you. I know it sounds like I am. I just know what girls look like your at your age following adult weight standards look like and how sick they get. My niece is 9 almost 10 and is trying to follow her mom in her dieting plan! It just isn't a good idea. She/ you need your own diet plan, and scale.
