I have heard that atkins is healthy and I have heard the opposite. I am interested in it b/c it seems all I eat are high fat carbs, i.e. fries, burgers, etc... Any advice and starting this program or any info. on it?

Cocacolagirl,

First i would suggest you go and buy the Atkins book. That way you will be able to learn what you can eat and how it is the diet works.

When I first started low carbing I just watched my carb intake. Then i bought the book and realized that there are so many more foods out there that I could eat.

Hope this helps some..

I used to know someone who did it a long time ago, and she lost alot of weight and had alot of energy. But all I ever saw her eat was hamburger patties and green beans. I never saw her with any other kind of vegetables. And I am a big vegetable eater.
Don't they even make the atkins candy bars now?
That would help me too since I am a chocaholic.

You can eat other vegetables .. you just have to avoid the truly starchy ones (carrots, potatoes). So, you can eat pretty much all the green leafy veggies you want. Green beans, broccoli, probably asparagus ...

Like Sinnrah said, buy the book. Its best to start out with a good understanding of the theory behind the diet.

The Atkins "candy bars" are pretty good. YOu will find that they do seem sweeter after you've been on the eating plan for a little bit. I also enjoy the carb solutions bars. Read the labels for the "NET CARB" count. I keep them in my purse so that i can have a snack when I can't get to the fridge. Also good for a movie theatre snack...
