Is anyone doing or have done Sugar Busters? I tried it and lost about 10 pounds in a week. I stopped because I thought that was too much to lose in a weeks time. I have been told that the more weight you need to lose, the faster it works.I have a lot to lose. I would love to hear some input.
Thanks.

Kutekitty is right. Its not unusual or unhealthy for the first few weeks of a diet to cause BIG weight loss. Your body can hold an amazing amount of water and this initial weight loss is almost always water weight.

After your body has adjusted to the new diet and the water weight is gone, you should see a significant slow down in the rate of loss. Your body can only metabolize about 2lbs. of fat a week. So, if you're losing faster than that, you've started to use your muscle mass for fuel. And while this might make the scale show a smaller number, its counter-productive to the goal of permanent weight loss because it will signficantly slow your metabolism down. A single pound of muscle burns something like 60 calories per day. A pound of fat only burns 2 calories each day. So, to protect itself from starvation your body will use up muscle mass.

To avoid this, make sure you're eating ENOUGH food and exercise. A 20-30 minute full body weight lifting routine 2-3 days a week would probably be sufficient for maintaining muscle mass.

In case you want more encouragement - I agree that a lot of the 10 pounds was water (cutting out junky carbohydrate can have a very diuretic effect on some), so try it for a couple of weeks and see how it goes. I'll best you will continue to lose at a more reasonable pace.

I know the basic premise of SugarBusters, have never done it myself, but know some who were successful also. I think keeping high-glycemic-impact foods to a minimum is definitely a good thing!

Good luck!

Thanks guys. I will continue with my WOE. KuteKitty, Sugar Busters is almost like Atkins's but not as strict. You can eat fruit and bread in limited amounts. Like, for breakfast, I have a glass of OJ, some kashi cereal or oatmeal with 2% milk. Or I could have whole wheat toast with butter and whole fruit preserves. Then for lunch, I could have a turkey sandwich if I didn't have toast for breakfast, or even a pbj sandwich. For snack I could have some grapes or a fruit. Then dinner, I could have spaghetti with whole grain noodles, a salad and veggies. I really enjoy being on it. The sweet grapes takes care of my cravings for something sweet.

I think the diet sounds fantastic if you enjoy being on it. The real trick to permanent weight loss is to make changes to your diet that you can live with forever! Good luck danae and let us know how things go for you!
