View Full Version : I'M STUCK

I'm really stuck...and it's frustrating me to no end!!! I'm just starting my fifth week on Atkins. I've been really good (but of course now I've learned some hints like cut out cheese, bars & shakes if you're stuck). I've never had a shake or breakfast bar. I have had 2-3 Peanut Carmel bars...but no more...and I'm still stuck.

The first week (actually by day 4) I lost 6-7 lbs. The next week I was bad and I went up 2 lbs because of Bailey's Irish Cream and a few other cocktails including red wine. I lost that during the third week and am now at 160 again and the stupid scale will NOT budge anymore. I finally made my husband remove the scale from the house (it's in his truck with him at work!). I'm not cheating...bacon/eggs for breakfast. Turkey & ham roll-ups (sometimes a little home made coleslaw in the middle) or a chef salad for lunch and a steak (probably 8-10 oz.) for dinner with romaine lettuce, and ceasar dressing. That is a basic day. Oh yeah, a cup of decaf coffee (now switched to decaf tea so I don't use as much cream) with two splenda and a nightly jell-o....I even started using my own whipped cream with splenda. Do you see anything bad in there? Maybe a glass of waist watchers lemon-lime soda because I'm so sick of water. I'm drinking at least 80 ounces a day...probably more like 100....

I want to get down to 140-145...do you think it will EVER happen?????? I really appreciate any advice you can give me....I'm getting frustrated!!

I have to admit that I did have 2 mich ultra this weekend...but that shouldn't ruin a whole week of good eating, should it???????

I'm also adding more time to the treadmill every week...I'm up to 40 minutes (2 miles) 4-5x a week...is this enough?? I had to take 2 weeks of exercise off in the beginning because of a back problem...but I'm back to exercising!

Weights will be added...once I lose a couple lbs. I'm going to go out and buy some....but not until that scale moves....

Howdy!!

First of all stop and take a deep breath. I know it's frustrating- but you are rockin on!!

When I went thru the dreaded plateau I changed my workout routine. Before you go out and buy a bunch of weights- have you tried resistance bands? They are cheaper and they are great to work-out with. Walking is a great workout but your body adjusts to the workout as you go, so rather then just walking more, change and do something new. Throw in the resitance bands a couple times a week before you walk, or try a workout video in place of walking a couple times a week. I also love my step- I found one with a video for about twenty bucks. Check around and remember that it's almost garage sale season and people are going to be willing to sell this kind of stuff for next to nothing.

Love from Gem!!

First, I don't think you can call it "stuck" until after you've not lost weight for 4 weeks running or so .. thats the "official" definition (whatever that means, huh?).

Be NICE to yourself! Your body is getting used to this radically different diet. The first week was WATER weight. Your body can retain insane amounts of water and any new diet will cause a loss in water the first couple of weeks and a low-carb diet is esp. prone to that.

Keep following your diet as closely as possible and I'm sure you'll start to see a loss of a 1lb. or 2 a week very soon.

I would also suggest going ahead and buying either weights or resistance bands now .. don't wait on the scale to move. Lifting weights will help maintain your muscle mass while you're losing weight. A single pound of muscle burns 60 calories each day. A single pound of fat burns 2 calories each day. Your body will use your muscles for fuel, before fat, becasue they require more energy to maintain. Now, the Atkins diet might help avoid this to an extent, but I still maintain that using weight training is very important to a weight loss program. As to your cardio, I'd say you're good to go for now, though as the other poster pointed out, doing multiple types of activities is always good.

I can't really advise you on your menu, I don't low-carb. I'm assuming that you're only eating enough that you feel satisfied, not full and not hungry? 8-10 oz steak seems like a lot for one sitting, but again, I jsut don't understand the low-carb life.

Consistency is key. While you might not be seeing any results on the scale, are you seeing other results (increased energy, inches lost)? Sometimes it takes awhile to see the scale change as your body adjusts. Just keep up with your plan and be paitient.

My Hubby and I have been on adkins since Jan 02, we were on induction until the end of feb then we went into maintainence, we didnt gain, and my hubby lost almost 40 and me almost 27, I got stuck too for like three weeks, but dont stop you will lose, inches if not lbs, your body does slow down but dont get discouraged. We are now going back to less than 20 carbs a day now, we just needed somewhat of a break, and after you do it for a while you will see that it becomes a way of life, or at least it has for us. Good luck and hang in there.

Thanks you guys...I won't give up!! I actually have a "Richard Simmons" video I bought from someone on eBay that I've never used...and it came with some kind of bands...I just dug it out of the closet...I don't know if I can deal with him...but I'll give it a whirl...what do I have to lose... POUNDS!! That's all, right : ) It will do until I can find some bands elsewhere....speaking of elsewhere...would WalMart or someplace like that have resistance bands?? Thanks again for the encouragement!! I'm NOT giving up!!

If Walmart doesn't, and I think they would, they do sell weights and weights sets after all, Target probably will. Or Kohl's.

Let me know how you like the Richard Simmons tape. I'm considering buying one of his Sweatin to the Oldies tapes just for something different. LOL.

And really, Richard Simmons has lost a great deal of weight and maintained that loss for years and years. He's annoying, but he's also amazing.

DON'T GIVE UP!!!

I also got "stuck" many times over....I started Atkins the 2nd week in November...hit the dreaded 3rd week stall and that lasted at least 3 weeks...had other stalls throughout...what I did to give it a kick start was add more "fat" into my diet...I was also eating too much protein. Once I turned those portions around, the weight started to fall off again...

But remember, even though you may not be seeing the weight coming off in numbers on your scale, it's very possible you are still losing...I did. I could tell by the way my clothes were fitting me even though the scale wasn't telling me anything different!!

Stick to it - it'll happen! It took me less than 4 months to lose my goal of 23 lbs....the last 10 lbs. were the hardest, but they did fall off.

P.S. I'm the first to admit....I'm lazy. I joined an aerobics class in Feb. and made only 1 class....I think it would have made all the difference if I had actually motivated myself to get my nike's on...
