Well, I almost forgot, but tomorrow starts LENT! What's everyone going to give up?? In the past, have you been able to stick to it?
I have to think about what I'm going to give up, since doing Atkins has pretty much wiped me out of all the "cheat foods". Everything I eat is on the up and up....... :D

Can't you give up something non-food-related? Maybe you could give up sleeping in ... get up an hour earlier and workout? ;-D
I don't observe Lent so I don't guess I'll be giving anything up.

CHELLE ~ Oh my goodness!! I get up at 5:00 in the morning as it is!! I don't wanna get up any earlier!!! HA!
But you know, you have a GREAT idea!! You DON'T have to give up food...I've completely put my excerising on hold (for what, I don't know) so I can do that instead!!
THANKS!!

Hey, me too. Of course, that is so I can workout before work. Why do you get up so early?
You could give up a TV show so you have time to exercise?
Food is an easy thing to think of when it comes time to give something up. My college roommate was Catholic and she gave chocolate up almost every year.

okay, here is another stupid question. Someone please explain to me what it is...
And does it have to be food? How about giving up spending money. That I need to do anyway. :-)

I think I know what Lent is but not sure my faith practices. What is it and who observes? Maybe I should be observing!!!

Since I was raised Catholic, I thought I'd chime in and answer Gracie Girl's question as best as I can. Catholics observe Lent as the forty-day period before Easter. It begins tomorrow, which is Ash Wednesday. During this forty-day period, we try to deny ourselves something we enjoy, thus - we discipline our wills so that we are not slaves to our pleasures. Many people also perform acts of penance or mortification. It's basically a time of purification and introspection. Personally, I'm not the best at "giving up" things, so I try and "do something extra." That "extra" for me will be getting back on my treadmill! lol

Very good Joyas, well said. Gracie I am not sure that other faithes pratice lent but maybe.I do think I remember that there was. I am also Catholic and always try to give up something but yes people can do other things as well. Do good for others which I try and do also. LOL I read something one time about this boy told his dad that he was gonna give up fighting with his brother. When his dad ask him how it was going, the boy said that he couldn't wait untill Easter came. LOL I thought that was funny.
My mom would go to church every single day during the 40 days for lent. She was amazing and miss her.

Ok- we are on the same page now. Thanks for clearing up-I know that we observe Lent but maybe we don't get into as much as Catholics do? I'm going to check this out a little better seeing I'm Presb. vs Catholic and see what we do!

I was going to say I'd give up sugar, but 40 days is a long time. I might have a nervous breakdown.... What about red meat? That sounds better.

JOYAS ~ That was a wonderful explanation!! I'm Catholic, and can never really explain lent - all I know is when I was a kid, we gave up candy.....couldn't wait till Easter!! Yum!
I usually try to give up a food, but seeing as how I've already been doing that for the past 4 months, CHELLE had a good idea about excerising....I find every excuse NOT to!!
CHELLE ~ I have no reason to get up @ 5 in the morning. Ha! My husband gets up at 4:30, and his alarm wakes me up. (I hate being a light sleeper) I usually lay in bed until 5, then I head downstairs for my coffee and "my time" on the computer. I get a good hour head start before my kids start waking up, and then we're all trying to hustle to get going to school/work. The only time I sit and watch tv is at night, around 9:00. I go to bed then, and spend that hour in "down time" for myself. I usually fall asleep before 10:00....
I told my family last night I was going to give up bidding on stuff on Ebay too! They all laughed! I'll show them! I can restrain myself! If I can diet for 4 months and not cheat, I can stay off of Ebay for 40 days!!

Hi! I'm Missouri Synod Lutheran, and we observe Ash Wednesday and thus Lent. Like Catholics, we mark the beginning of Lent by receiving ashes on our foreheads (we came from dust, and to dust we will return)...Lent is a time for meditation, introspection, fasting, praying and Bible reading...some of us abstain from something worldly or pleasureable, others do volunteer work or give to the poor....b

WOW Brooke, Lutheran and Catholics are so much the same. Yeah I got my ashes yesterday and ate some fried fish. I am doing really good drinking just water and I'll try and do one or more good deeds each day.
Friday I think we are having tuna patties

Hi Dix! How wonderful to have a new friend! I like your ideas for how to observe this season - much nicer to do good deeds than to wear the "hair shirt", lol! Blessings, Brooke

Dix, how do you make tuna patties? I'm not a real big cook but would like something to make with tuna besides just eating it plain.

Yellow what I do is this: good for Atkins
1 can tuna, plain pork rinds
1 egg, shredded cheddar cheese
chopped onion, salt and pepper
chopped bell pepper
Drain you can of tuna, put into bowl and mix in 1 egg, onion, bell pepper, salt and pepper..mix real well. Then mix some cheese. I useally use about 2-3ozs. of cheese (shedded) After that I take some plain pork rinds into a freezer bag and pound them until they are all crunched down. I put alittle in with the mixture just to keep the mixture together. Form your patties, then bread them with some ground pork rinds also. Fry in alittle oil..so good too. You can put whatever you what in it. If you don't like onion or whatever leave them out. LOL First time I did it I didn't put enough pork rinds and when I tried to flip the patties they all broke up. Good Luck
