I've been reading through some posts here lately and have come to notice how so many people focused on the weight they want to lose, but not how much FAT they want to lose.

I'm sure that anyone wanting to lose weight is really refering to fat - I wouldn't think that anyone wants to lose precious muscle. So why rely on the scales to tell you this? Fat loss isn't something that shows up particularly well on weighing scales. It's how your clothes fit and look which show real progress.

For example, what would make you feel better, or give you a boost or encouragement?
- Weighing 130 and being a flabby US size 10 (UK size 14), or
- Weighing 140 and being a tight, toned US size 6 (UK size 10)

I know I'd rather weigh more and be smaller myself.

We must remember that you can lose quite a chunk of fat without it really showing up on the scale.

Yes, maintaining a healthy weight is vital to our health. But it is what percentage of what our weight is made up of that is more important.

KaNGaMaLoo,

I agree with you 100%. What could we do to focus on losing inches off diffrent parts of our body?

I agree too!! One hundred percent and then some... I have currectly started a new exercise thing, it may onely be working because I just started it, BUT I have been measuring my waist, upper abdomon, lower abdomon, theigh, hips, and upper arms and in only one week I have lost 7 inches in these areas... HOWEVER i have only lost 2 lbs... I can comfortably fit into the pants that were getting tight, and can tightly fit into a size smaller (size 24)
I have a very very long way to go, but I figure as long as I keep going I will get smaller if nothing else... *S*

I agree completely. A friend and I wieghed and measure on thursday and will be doing this weekly. I can not wait to see how many inchs I have lost and weight. The diference is I am excerizing and my friend really is not. I want to see what a difference it really makes.

exercising really makes a difference, especially the combo of cardio and resistance training... i went from a size 12 to a size 8 in 12 weeks with only a 10lb loss on the scales...and then from size 8 to a 6 in the next 5 weeks with a zero loss on the scales...

Let me ask you guys something...I know it's a matter of gauging weightloss success more on measurements than on the scale. I'm one that ALWAYS has to step on a scale...and gauge my weight that way. I've begun to take measurements as well. I notice my measurements steadily going down...while my weight fluctuates...one day low next day higher next day lower. Seeing what the scale says makes me feel BAD. How do you focus on the fact that by losing inches each week you are doing GOOD and not BAD as the scale says??? (hopefully this has made some sense...*lol*)

i agree with jeffsgal, i am also a big weigher. i weigh myself 4 or more times a day. although the measurement thing isn't working too well for me either. i still measure the same as i did when i started struggling to lose weight (220 pounds) that i do now (177-180 pounds). although i am able to fit in a size 13 comfortably, where as before i was in a size 20, all of my measurements are the same, just my weight has gone down. i'm guessing maybe i'm measuring myself wrong somehow, but not sure how that could be possible. how does one pay more attention to the actual loss in inches, rather than the loss in pounds?
