I recently had a baby and the weight I gained is just about to kill me. Not just from the health factors but from depression. I know what I need and what to do I just seem to lack that certain ingredient called motivation. I live on a fixed income and I can't just run off to a gym whenever I fell the urge, baby comes first. What I could really use is some movativation tips and tricks and maybe some success stories of your own. I have been reading your own discussions and you are all so supportive of one another. I could really use some help.
Thanks! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/clown.gif

Weight Watchers has worked for me :)
I know they have an online thing but in all honesty it's going in to the meeting and weighing in that worked for me.
Also look at eBay for a walking tape like Leslie Sansone to do in your living room or check one out from your local library!
I knew what to do too and had failed... you just need support and to be held accountable and you'll be fine :)
Good luck!!

I've heard of this phentermine and I wanted to know if you can get it in Canada?
Does anyone know? Also a friend of mine is starting on xenical in a few days and I was wondering if anyone knows how it works and how affective it is. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/clown.gif http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/clown.gif

Hi Cammy, Iam from Canada too and looked into phentermine myself and found out they do not send it to Canada. I guess the only way to go is if you know someone in the U.S where you could get is sent. Goodluck!

Yes Phentermine is sold in Canada as "Ionamin". I lived in BC until this year but even here NWT it is still available! and asked my doctor for it and he gave it to me without a problem. Phentermine and Ionamin are the same thing, it is much much cheaper to get it normally here. only cost me $30 a month for 30mg. However 30 mg is very very strong for me anyway. I had to cut to 15 after taking one. But thats how you get it here...just ask the doctor!!

Sorry about that I did'nt realize there was another name for phentermine that is sold in Canada. Mepoopsy, did the Ionamin that your doctor prescribed work for you? Just wondering if this stuff actually works or not. Thanks!

well...I took the 30 mg at 7am and by 3pm I had not eaten couldn't drive and was what I would call "hi". I didn't fall asleep until 4am and got up the next day and just forgot about doing it again. About a year later I was having trouble and my sil was on 15mg and was working well for her so I tried it and my doctor agreed.Big difference!!! I lost over 30 lbs and felt great. I only gained it back hen I ate everything in sight, not because I went off it. Its like anything...just be sensible about it. My sil and mil both found 30mg impossible to sleep on and much too strong, but some docs seem to give it at first. I have heard of people in the US on higher doses so there must be some difference in the way it is or something?Well good luck and if I can help or offer support feel free to email me at [removed].com personally right now I am doing slimfast to get the xmas lbs off, you know,,too too many cookies :D so hopefully I can hammer http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/hammer.gif it in to my head for next year.
Good luck!

just a note on phen fen i have a girlfriend just started taking it ( a new mom also) and passed out on her 4th day of taking it broke her jaw and lost 10 teeth. so I would say to avoid drugs if possible.
30 lbs seems like a lot, but it should go quickly.
i hear ya on the fixed income.
if you are in a safe area or can find a friend to go with you grab your stroller and start walking and it will be good for you and baby. If baby is too young to be outside get a good exercise video, but i would reccomend avoiding drugs if you can.
a good book is "the zone" by barry sears.
you might enjoy and should be able to find like at amazon . com for about $10 used.
really teaches how to put your food together and although i think exercise is very important i have two girlfriends that hate exercise and have lost 20lbs on it and kept it off.
not a quick fix but a long haul sort of reading.
good luck and hang in there.

Hi Cammy,
I am also a mother, but of 2 and find myself quite depressed alot of the time. Its very hard to lose the weight and i will workout for a couple months, not noticing any change so I stop, It would help to have someone workout with me, sister and friend both have gym memberships with me but noone ever wants to go :(
So I am going to take up running, saving up for a treadmill, I'm tired of feeling this way I only have about 25lbs to lose ,thats my goal..
Also I have tried the Atkins Diet and found it worked a bit I wasn't very good on it though, but some friends found it very successful , its an idea or slimfast for morning and afternoon then a small dinner also helped me but can get pricy,I hope this helps, the ideas and that there is someone who knows what your going through. Its an awful way to feel when your uncomfortable in your own clothes. Also what i do to lift my spirits and get a bit of excersise is to put on music and dance like a crazy woman its cheap and gets your heart rate up..Take care Cammy. :)

just wanted to throw in another thing that may be great for the depression.....YOGA.. :) there are a lot of tapes out there and you gotta find what is good for you (you can usually rent them to see at many places) the breathing and exercises will help lift your mood. the only hard thing is quiet without baby needing ya which may be almost impossible. but it is also great exercise and not all of them have you bending into a pretzel. :)

Hi Cammy..The Atkins diet is a low carb diet very low only 20g a day, There is a book out there called 'The Atkins Diet' By Dr. Atkins it explains the diet very well.. The only downside is all you can eat is meat ,cheese, eggs, some vegetables no fruit, you can have nuts, any kind of fish, and no sugar but diet drinks are allowed to a certain extent. It really works but i find its not a forever diet but if you try it and it works for you you can maintain your weight, on a low carb diet, not quite 20gms low but 40grams or so a day which gives you a little more variations of foods. And on the up side it totally cuts cravings, makes you feel full and satisfied. What I love is that you can eat bacon and eggs for breakfast and not feel guilty http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/wow.gif But definatly purchase the book if you think its something you might like to try. I also think there is a website too...hope this helps take care

Before using medications for weight loss....go the exercise/diet route instead...
here is a way to fit in exercise with little time.
when the baby is sleeping, get in a few quick 10 minute jog in place/jumping jack/pushups/situps workout. Do something quickly to get your heart rate up fast, in a short ammount of time. Do it when you first wake up....and try to get at least a total of 30 mins combined per day. Each mini workout will get your metabolism elevated for a period of time after you are finished. So, even resting you will be burning more calories.
stay away from "junk" food, cut out soda from your life alltogether, unless it is diet..
a lot of small changes can really add up!...and at the same time you will be teaching your child healthy exercise/eating habbits that will stay with her/him for the rest of their lives!
Good luck!

Hi Tad,
I'm sorry but I'm not sure myself. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/confused.gif I would like to know too. I don't have a large calorie intake myself but I still don't seem to lose any weight. I want to know how to balance fat grams with calories to lose weight. I know you are suppose to reduce your calorie intake so your body has to dip into your fat deposits but I hve no idea how to count that. Does anyone know?
I'm sorry I can't answer you question Tad, but Good Luck! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/t_up.gif

Hey there Summer25,
Can you tell me, what is body for life. Also do you happen to know a good exercise tape for beginners? I tried one from a friend and it was awful. It was way too fast :eek:and they didn't show you how to work the moves. It was almost like a tape of people trying to show off how much better than me they were. It was very discouraging.

Hi Cammy,
Body for life is a 12 week program its actually a contest, but my hubby and I are just doing for ourselves. The book really explains it. But basically it gets you doing 46 mins of weight training 3 times a day, its very thourough on how many reps and to do and then its 20 min of cardio 3 times a week, but the key is the intensity and then you follow a good diet it gives you examples of what to eat, your supposed to eat 6 times a day small portions and equal amounts of carbs and protein. the nice thing is Sunday is your free day no limits on food eat ANYTHING you want and no excersise that day. Then back on it on Monday, its something you would have to commit to. I'm so glad my hubby is going to do it too, you should purchase the book i kow all i ever say is get the book but it really has helped me want to do this for myself.I know it will be hard to find a good time to excersise, but for that short period of a day I am going to make time even if the kids have to climb on me while i do it :D j.k.
I hope this helps take care Cammy.

I did the body for life thing for a while. I felt GREAT while I was doing it. I have since moved (I used to have a gym at my apartment complex) and life has turned around and I haven't gotten back on the program, though my sister gave me some Myoplex shakes last night, so I am going to start again.
I didn't lose weight, but that is because I have some health issues.
I did feel really good (healthy, energetic)while on the program.

You really shouldn't eat more than 50 grams a day. Eating healthy w/ 10-30 grams and regular exercise would be a good low fat diet. Just don't eat less than 10 because your body needs some fat! :D

Atkins is a low carb diet! You can not eat rice, pasta, sugar, grains, bread, or vegetables high in starch such as carrots, potatoes, or corn to name a few. You also can not eat fruit during the first 14 days AKA Induction.
You can eat eggs, meat, some cheeses, and most vegies.
During induction you eat no more than 20 carbs per day.
I know this may sound hard to believe or impossible to follow but believe me it works and after the first few days you will notice a decrease in appetite and you will not have cravings any more.
There is a book you can buy called Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution. He has a brand new updated version that just came out with a free carb counter, it's white paperback. It's easy to read and easy to understand. There are also alot of informative low carb sites online too.
Good Luck!

Hi everybody!
I'm joining a gym on Febuary 1st. I found out that my husbands family is taking us to Florida in August so I thought I better do something about this now! I can't wait to start working out. :bouncing: I weigh 230 (from my pregnancy)and I want to be down at 130 and I've got six months to do it.
I have never been excited about the thought of working out, http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/yawn.gif just the fact that the word work is in there turns me right off. I'm ready this time though, I've got a friend joining with me and talking to you everyday sure has helped keep me fixed on my goal, thanks!

Hiya Trinket,
I have a goal of 100lbs and I am going away in six months. I hope and pray that I can get as much of it off by then. I don't think I can get it all off but I'd like to. Before my dieting I wasn't really active and I didn't have a clue how to count a calorie. Well now I am joining a gym today and I plan to go 4 times a week at least, and I am watching every calorie that goes into my body. They say if you can cut out 3500 calories of your diet or burn it off, that's equal to 1 lbs. So I caculated how much I need to take out of my diet in six months times to equal 100lbs. If you do the math it's not a lot to eat in a day, but if you choose the right things it can be. Who know how this will turn out, all I know is I won't be any worse off in six months just lighter :D.
Good Luck
Cammy

Hi! I carry around a little notebook with me and write down everything I put in my mouth. If I have a sandwich I break it down: 2 slices bread, 2 slices ham, mustard. I keep track of calories/fat/carbs/protein. I know I eat way too many carbs, but my calories and fat are really low. So now I know that I must switch my diet to low carb to lose weight. But it is so hard not to count the fat content!! And I am having a hard time trying to find stuff to eat. Last year I did the Atkins for almost 2 weeks and lost 10 lbs right away. It was great. But I didn't feel good, had trouble going to the bathroom and I got really sick of meat and eggs. So I don't know what to do now. Becoming bulemic almost sounds like a good idea at this point. But I can't stand the mess or the headaches. (just kidding, I wouldn't do that).
We are going to Puerto Rico in September. My husband would love to see me in a Bikini! ha ha. That would be a site at this weight.
Interestingly enough the little notepad I carry around is called "FAT LIL' NOTEBOOK" by Mead. Isn't that funny?
Good Luck!

Cammy,
I complained to my doc about the 25 lbs I am carying from having my son 5 months ago. My doc presribed Zoloft for my slight depression and stress. This will help lift your spirits so you will feel like doing exercise. My doc wouldn't give me any weightloss drugs. Here is another secret...the days I take my Zoloft I eat less b/c I feel better plus this certain drug curbs your hunger. It kills 2 birds with one stone..you feel better and eat less. I have never been one to like this kind of drugs but they have improved my overall mood and helped me get motivated b/c I feel better about myself. Also, I am like you and can't run out and join the gym. I have recently purchased a jogging stroller...so my son can exercise too. The $121 that I have put out overtime will be a good investment. With all those drugs you will still have to exercise so..why waste your money on the drugs?? Make a more sensible investment and buy something useful. Use all the money you would have spent on different drugs to buy yourself new smaller clothes!!

I complained to my doc about the 25 lbs I am carying from having my son 5 months ago. My doc presribed Zoloft for my slight depression and stress. This will help lift your spirits so you will feel like doing exercise. My doc wouldn't give me any weightloss drugs. Het Purrbaby,
I took Zoloft for a year and actually just recently quit because I had too many bills coming in. I love it. I was really depressed for a long time and this stuff put my life back into order. It let me discover a whole new way to think about things and because of it I am a much more positive person. I don't know where I would have been without it. How long have you been taking it? How much are you taking? The only thing I want to stress is don't stop taking it. I felt like I was ready, but as it turned out I was not and my mood quickly changed. I became edgy and moody. So even if you think you can go off it DON'T. I don't remember it ever curbing my appetiet though. Is it actually helping you eat less?

I take one pill 15 mg(?). I take it every once in a while...like when my sons teething is real bad or I'm PMSing bad. I have taken it for 4 months to get it in my system and now I take it...once every other day but I get an extra dose on those bad days. The pills really can cause weightloss..my doc warned me about it when he prescribed it. I take it for my husband's sake though.

That's really strange, cuz when I got Zoloft my doctor told me it had to be taken everyday or it won't work. I was taking 100mg of the stuff and maybe I was taking it for a different reason. Who knows? Anyway, I'm glad it's working out for you.

Zoloft didn't really work for my depression and it sure as hell didn't make me eat less or excersize more. lol.

my doctor warned me that Zoloft would cause weight gain!! This is why I stopped taking it for the stress I was having after a major car accident.

Hi there ...
great topic for a thread :-)
I personally would never take diet pills to lose weight - I have gained 55lbs in two years due to overeating and I started WW in december last year - it worked very well for me - I lost every single week, more when I trained and a bit less when I didn't BUT the important thing is that I didn't gain AT ALL for 14 weeks even though I still enjoyed the occassional chocolate or crisps as long as I stayed in my points allowance. I too live on a certain income and I think WW is quite expensive, I used it online for three months and paid £50.00 for that. I did get a lot of support from the WW messageboard and I used all their online tools. After the 14 weeks I gained 0.5lbs lol simply because I overate that week, don't know why lol its just one of those things. Since then I am back on track and to be very honest with you I do enjoy dieting. I always make sure not to let it get boring. When I did get bored with WW two weeks ago I decided to go off it for a while and try some other diets that are out there and well atkins sounded very interesting lol I did it for one week and was SOOOO glad when I came off it ... sorry, not my kinda diet at all even though I have to say it works if you do it right. I lost 4.5lbs on atkins which was a great boost after losing like 0.5lbs EACH week lol of course during WW my weight loss slowed down which is just normal. Well after deciding NO MORE ATKINS lol I moved on to Slim-Fast and today is my 6th day on it and I LOVE it lol I don't know yet about my weight but I expect to gain this week simply because of switching from lowwww carb to "normal" carb but hey lol next week the slim-fast should kick in properly because everything is back to "normal" then and well I have got about 28 lbs to go and since I fit back into my old jeans YEAH YEAH YEAH lol the diet is not the most important thing in my life anymore ... all it takes for me is eating less and making sure I enjoy what I am doing ... good luck to all of you!
