View Full Version : Any other college students?

Hello everyone!

I'm a college sophomore, and I've been trying to lose weight for quite a while now. I lost 20 pounds between last summer and the fall semester, and of course, gained some of it back during the winter. Now that it's getting warmer outside and it's much easier to get motivated to lose more, I'd really like to start getting back on track.

Are there any other college students here who'd like to be buddies? Or just anyone, for that matter? I won't discriminate. :)

College freshman here. I'm on Atkins and I've been on it for a week 1/2. Lost 12 pounds. I want to lose 60 total.
I'll work with you if you'd like :)

Awesome! Congrats on your progress. I have no idea how you could stay on Atkins while in college. That's very admirable. I could never do that with so many people around here eating lots of pizza. :) I personally don't think I would ever really do it anyway. I've never been a big meat eater. Other than chicken or turkey, I always feel kinda gross after I eat a lot of meat. (Sorry for the rambling. I feel like the Energizer Bunny today. *LOL*)

I think I'm going to focus more on eating more fruits, veggies and complex carbs, drinking more water, and working out more. I read somewhere that it is much easier to add behaviors than to stop them. So instead of thinking about how I shouldn't eat Wheat Thins constantly while I'm studying, I'm going to concentrate on eating more healthy food during meals so I won't crave a snack later on. I've found that this makes me feel less deprived.

I just got back from the rec center, and I feel awesome. I spent about an hour doing cardio and about 30 with strength training. I won't get to do that much during the week, but I figured I might as well use my weekends for a little extra time there.

I weighed myself while I was there, and I've gotten up to almost 185 (I'm 5'9)! That means I've gained at least 20 pounds since January. That makes me so mad at myself!!!

My goal is to get down to 170 by May 2, my birthday. I know that's a little much, but you always lose weight fast in the beginning. After that, I want to be down to at least 150 by August.

This week is going to be hard because I have a physics test, a chemistry quiz, and a term paper due... plus I'm starting a new job. But I just have to keep thinking to myself that working out and eating right shouldn't add to my stress. It should help to relieve it, and really, it should help my performance.

Anyway, I think I'm through rambling for now. Keep up the good work!

Hey hun!
I know what you mean about all the pizza and stuff. Ugh!! My roommate came in today with a huge frozen yogurt with M&M's... I was going to kill her! :)
Props to you on the working out. That's my downfall. I have a nice rec facility that I should really start taking more advantage of. When I bored though, I tend to either read or go online. I need to change that. I'm in Michigan and the weather is freezing; I guess I use that as an excuse to not leave my room. But if you're doing it than I can, too.
I'm at 188 right now, so we're close!! I have similar goals, so this is good. I look in the mirror and don't feel like I look 188, but I definitely feel it. Are you the same way?
Well hey, I'm glad I have a partner in crime :) My name is Melanie, nice meeting you. Keep me posted!

Hi guys

I'm in college too, at least till May when I graduate.

I'm trying to lose about 15 lbs more, I've been doing slim fast since Feb 1 and have had success so far. I work out about 4 times a week at the rec center too, and I go for extra time on Sundays! B/c during the week I usually can only go for an hour at a time.

My downfalls are snacking during studying, Starbucks downtown, the dining hall and unlimited portions...and the fact that I have a kitchen and I love to bake. :-)

No, wait, my biggest downfall is DRINKING ON THE WEEKENDS. I need help with that, all those extra empty bloating pound putting on calories!!

Talk to you soon guys!

Hi Angelene :)
I know what you mean about the snacking. I actually gave all my snack food away a couple of weeks ago and it has really made a difference... except for the animal crackers and vanilla wafers the roommate has stored in our closet. Agh!
I'm about 17 pounds down now. Yay. I really need to start working out though. Keep in touch!

Pixiedust--Good for you, 17 lbs! I think that's great, I hope to get up there soon. I have high hopes and optimism.

Exams. That's all I have to say. Exams ruin a diet.

Goodnight Ladies, and gents if you're here too.

I'm right here!

I've been doing okay the past few days, but with exams it's been hard to keep my food intake moderate :( Haven't gained, but haven't lost.

Anyway, I hope you all are doing well.

Hey guys!

So sorry I haven't been here. My computer decided to crash on me!

I did a horrible job of working out this week. Daylight Savings time is an EVIL thing!!! I've been sooo tired.

I'm so excited that this many people replied to my post. We can do this!!!

Well, I better make this one short. I have a huge paper due this week, and I really need to get started. Have a great day, girls! :)

I don't know why, but I always crave salt and sugar when I study. The Atkins type diet has helped reduce cravings, but I am addicted to sunflower seeds (salted kind in the shells) when I study. And seeing as it is final time, I am trying hard to fight it. Drinking water to try and fill that void, but it is so hard. Especially with a physics and biochem final next week. That also means I can't spare the time to go to the gym, which sucks.

Hang in there!
