I just wanted to say that I was really shocked and sad to hear of Dr. Atkins' death.
I remember first hearing about his way of eating in a magazine (while at my grandma's in California, bored out of my mind) and dismissing it as total crap. I remember the first time I read his book on a drive though the Rockie mountains and staying with my aunt in the beautiful Druango area. It's permanently changed the way I think of losing weight, and I went on from there. (for better or worse)
I think he was a good man - even a great man - and really wanted to help people change their lives. I've heard accusations that he did it for the money and simply came up with another fad diet for another decade. I don't think this is so. I think he really did care. He changed the way America thinks of dieting.
He will be missed by many.
