Well it has been a very long time since we have had an Atkins board post.

How is everyone doing? I think we need to keep on encouraging each other.

I have been doing the Atkins since mid January and have gone down 27 lbs and it has been forever since my weight has come down. I have been taking my measurements and I have come down a bit in inches but it is just frustrating not to see the scale come down..I know the scale is just a number but I am trying really hard and I thought I would of been down more by now. Any suggestions?

I wish we could keep this going. I started this board a few months ago when I started the diet. But it seems like it just keeps dwindling away. Well as for me I am doing okay. I don't believe that I am doing perfect though. I have really tried today, because I have been slipping a little. I have done good today though. I am still only down 47 pds. Still excited though. Just need to drink more water and add more exercise. Good Luck everyone. kk

Hello,
I started the atkins diet on may 5th and I am down 11 pounds. The induction period went better than I expected. I mean it was not as hard as I thought it would be. I am actually going to keep doing the induction period for another week or two. Good luck to both of you.

Hi everyone,

First of all, I just want to say, kk: 47 pounds is NOT something to say ONLY about! That's awesome!! You obviously have the patience to work off that much in the past, which means you can lose those other pounds. Wow, I'm so impressed!

Ok, I have a few questions for you Adkins folks. Are you planning on staying on this type of diet long term? Will you work carbs back into your diet slowly? Do people usually gain their weight back when they do this? Also, what do you typically eat in a day?

I know, there are a lot of questions here, but if anyone can take a crack at even one or two, I'd really appreciate it.

thanks,

I'm just curious--how much weight have you Atkins fans got to lose? I've got roughly 30 pounds to lose and I found that with Atkins the weight was just coming off so slowly--I'm talking like 2-3 pounds in the first 2 weeks. I'm wondering if it's because I don't have a high amount of weight to lose; as opposed to someone who has 50 and up. I'm currently doing low carb (under 100 grams)and getting them mostly from veggies and whole wheat bread. I'm also keeping my fat intake to less than 35 grams and this seems to be working just as well as Atkins has for me. I've been tossing around the idea of trying Atkins again; but I'm kinds scared of taking in high amounts of fat and possibly gaining again.

Sorry to ramble; just trying to figure this big mystery we call weightloss out!!!!LOL

Not the blonde blonde one but the other. I just love it. Maybe this will help me start off good again. I also been tanning by my pool and getting a nice rich tan. LOL Anyone what to come??

Well I be around I hope for some time..KK girlie keep it up you are doing awesome. I have about 30-40 pounds to go.

Love ya'll,

well it sounds like everyone is doing great.

i agree we should keep this board going. i used to like it when we had it going every day. it felt like i had constant support and we could offer suggestions and encouragement.

gretsky - i plan on staying on this until i lose majority of the weight i want to and then reintroduce the carbs slowly to a certain point. but only the good ones....like whole wheat stuff.

Jennilynn, I too have about 30 pounds to lose. I decided to do the atkins diet and so far it is going great!

Caligal: thanks for replying. I think I'm going to give Atkins another try! I'll keep you posted!!!!

BTW: I have been low carbing but for some insane reason today I decided to have a small piece of chocolate cake (w/choc. icing) after lunch---it was like taking a sleeping pill!!LOL I couldn't seem to stay awake. I actually fell asleep while watching cartoons with my son! To tell you the truth; the cake wasn't that good, infact, now I'm regretting it. I guess it's just too many carbs for me!!!!

Hi Everyone,
Its good to see this board going. Its given me alot of inspiration. I've been doing Atkins for about 4 weeks now. This past weekend was bad. I totaly throw away the past 3 1/2 weeks of work. I didn't gain any weight, but I now have to start the induction period again. I have lost 12 lbs and about 5" off my body. My brother is getting married July 12 and I would like to lose another 20 lbs by then. Do you guys think I can do it??????
Any suggestions would be really appreciated.
Eg. breakfast ideas, snack ideas.
Best of luck to everyone on this board, keep up the good work!

Vanna - of course you can do it! Just stick to it and if you mess up don't give up just go back to the diet the following day.

Jennielynn - I totally hear you about the sweets, I tried to eat a cookie the other night and it did not taste that good and it made me sick. ONE COOKIE! I was a sweet aholic (spelling?)before I started this diet, now I do not even think about them. Well, once in a while something sweet will sound good, but a sugar free jello usually helps. Oh, have you tried any of the atkins breads? I made the orange cranberry muffins the other night and they aren't that bad. They are also good for a sweet tooth. :)

Goodmorning all you fellow atkiners.. he he (Would somebody please send some warmer weather my way) lol Bad time to have ice on my windshield.. he he Anyway to the subject... How is everyone doing. I am excited. He He I started my exercise yesterday. My kicker was the 10 minute fit fast abs tape than last night I did 30 minutes on the treadmill. That is a record for me he he I usually can't stand it more than ten minutes. I walked the first 15 then ran for a little over 5 and than walked the rest. I am thrilled over it. Getting ready to go and start it all over for the day. Did really good yesterday to. Didn't go over my 20 and drank so much water. he he I usually don't even drink a glass, but I am trying to get in at least four huge glasses a day so that I am getting my daily intake at least. Well good luck everyone..... kk

Good morning; my fellow Atkinians!!!LOL I've started off the day well--having two small brown & serve sausage patties for breakfast. I figure if I get bored with that and eggs; I can always go to the Ketoshakes. Has anyone tried them yet? They're actually pretty good; and come in a variety of flavors. Luckily; there's a distributor close to my house in case I need to make a run!!!

Wish me luck guys! I'm determined to stick to the book for the first 2 weeks and see where it gets me. Hopefully, it'll get me a few pounds thinner!!! Keep those success stories coming; you are my inspiration!!!!

good luck - jennielynn and XXDixieXX keep up the good work.

for the past two days i have been logging everything into fitday and on wednesday i stayed within my limit of 20 carbs and yesterday i ended up having 15 carbs...so i am pretty happy with that. i have also finally been getting all my water in for the past few days and i went down 2 more lbs.

Well, halfway thru day #1 and still going strong! I had 2 oz. ring bologna for a mid-morning snack and some chicken for lunch. Surprisingly; I'm not having any cravings yet. But, I'm prepared--just in case! I've also been drinking a lot of water; hoping that will keep me full!!! I figured if we go out for dinner tonite I will just have meat, chicken, or fish and a big salad. Even if I decide to add a low-carb veggie; I'll still be under 20 grams of carbs for the day. I was thinking; this is the perfect time to start Atkins for me; with the kids being away all weekend, they won't have to put up with my moods swings (provided I even have any from lack of carbs!!LOL) and I won't have to worry too much about temptation because I won't be cooking for them. So, until they come home on Monday--I should have this pretty well under control. I really thought this would be harder this time around; but so far--so good!!!

My sticks are finally turning back from me falling off track. I was still on, just had a few bad days. lol But now I am on track. Feels good to know where my boundaries in. You deffinetely start feeling like you are in control of what you put in your mouth. Unless of course you give in like I did last week. lol Well good luck everyone. I hope I have some poundage lost to report on Monday.... Good Luck... kk

Hi peeps! Just checking in to see how you all are doing! I'm doing great. The hubby and I went to Outback Steak House last night--I had a caesar salad (no croutons) chicken smothered with mushrooms, bacon, and cheese. That's it--besides about 4 glasses of water! The waitress was very good about refilling our drinks before we finished them--good thing I chose H2O!!!

Today went fine as well. Brown & serve sausage for breakfast, a slimjim for a snack; chicken caesar salad for lunch and two cheesedogs (no bread) with sf jello and reddi-whip for supper. It's amazing what I can do when I put my mind to it!!!

Well, gotta get caught up on the other threads so I'll check in again tomorrow. This reporting is actually doing me good--it's keeping me in line!!!

Have a great weekend!

Hi everyone--how's it going? Okay here. Despite the fact that we ate out 3 times this weekend--I managed to stay within induction limitations.......that is until we stopped at Dairy Queen last night. I ended up eating a small strawberry cheesecake blizzzard. To make myself feel better; I took 2 carb cutters also. Anyhow, the guilt didn't kill me this time and I got right back on track this morning. The old Jen would have thought "gee, I blew it so why not pig out" but like I said--that was the old me! No feeling guilty this time!!!

Hope everyone is well; I'll check back later!!

Okay guys...I managed to clean up my act again today. I'm actually way below the 20 grams today---I only ate 9.5 to be exact. I'm just not very hungry today. I"m not too worried about it because I'm sure I ate enough in calories & fat (ie: that delicious delmonico steak I had at lunchtime!!) Plus a salad. Breakfast was a one egg & cheese omelet and supper was a hotdog. Now it's off to bed knowing that I made it through another day without any nasty cravings. I'm so proud of myself: I made homemade french fries for my hubby at lunch and I didn't eat even one! He kept saying: just a few won't hurt. But I really had no desire to even have one. Until I finished my steak and salad; I was full! Another victory for me........maybe just a small one--but one nonetheless!!!! Goodnight all!!

"Hey guys,
Atkins will help you lose weight but remember it causes plaque in the arteries, since your eating meat. Which can cause heart disease.... If you want or need protein in the diet go for the vegetable protein or soy protein which is much more healthier....."

I do not believe this is true. In the early part of the century before refined carbohydrates were eaten like they are today, protein and fat intake were just as high as the average diet today. Yet heart problems associated with clogged arteries were quite rare. The main difference today is the increase in refined foods. So as long as loose associations are made, refined foods should be a worthy culprit.

The only problem I see with a high protein diet is that processed meats should be eaten less and less as the diet goes on. This way, the nitrates which are probably cancer risks will be gradually taken out of the diet and replaced with fish, chicken and red meat prepared in various ways.

Close inspection of the Atkins diet shows that it is not just eating meat. This is a common misconception some people have. In the beginning meat is the primary food source, but if you read the book and follow the directions you'll see that there are vegetables included gradually increasing. Once a person reaches a point where they are in maintenance, then they increase their intake of non-refined foods such as a variety of vegetables. Even so, unless someone has familial conditions of hypercholesterolemia there is little chance that dietary meat intake is going to negatively affect them.

There is literally no evidence that eating a diet consisting primarily of meat, vegetables and occasional fruit is dangerous. Conversely, refined carbohydrates breaks down into certain varieties of triglycerides, which increase the viscosity of blood and contribute to heart problems over time. To say that meat is dangerous compared to sugar is not true. Additionally, being overweight is nearly a guarantee of complications at some point in time such as type 2 diabetes, heart problems, etc. Yet diets high in meat have not conclusively been shown to be unhealthy. Remember that vegetarians get sick also, even those who are vegetarian and don't eat refined foods.

The healthiest diet I have ever researched is probably the most difficult to follow. It is where ALL food is eaten in the raw state and all food is prepared at home from 100% natural sources. I don't do this and I don't advocate it because it is so impossibly hard to follow. Anyone following this type of diet should do so only under direct supervision from someone who knows how it should be done.

Soy is fine in moderation, but is far from being proved to be safe.

I would suggest lowering the intake of not only refined carbohydrates, but also trans fats such as margarine and solidified cooking oils, as these things can lead to damage of the intimal layer of blood vessels and other problems.

I think the Atkins diet is a fantastic way to lose weight and get healthier. I have seen a tremendous number of people who were not only overweight, but people with blood sugar problems, anxiety, and other diseases and conditions do remarkably well following this type of diet.

Any diet should be done with your doctor's blessing.

Congratulations to those who have done well on this diet.

As for slowed weight loss, I'm not sure if has been mentioned here before, but sometimes a cheat meal or even a cheat day can help jump start the metabolism and help restart the weight loss. Not always, but it can do the trick for some people. Looking more closely at things like total calorie intake, hidden carbs, etc. are also good to do when weight loss slows.

Hi guys!!! Just wanted to see what my buddies were up to!

Well, despite my slip-up on Sunday.....my small DQ strawberry cheesecake blizzard; I lost 3 pounds so far and I'm on Day #5. I guess I should have started over with counting my days after my big blooper! Anyhow, I'm feeling good and I'm glad the scale is finally going down in numbers. It's a great inspiration to keep going. And it's an even greater feeling to know that I have CONTROL over my food. No more starving all the time....when I'm hungry; I eat!

I know i won't meet my original goal for the MDC but I'm heading in the right direction and that's what counts!!!! Everyone should keep that in mind as we approach the end of this challenge and begin a new one!! later peeps!

Goodmorning everyone. Figured I would type a little something on our Atkins board. How is everyone doing so far? I think I am going to go back to the way I was doing it when I started. For some reason I must have added something that is causing me to not lose. So I think I will go back to what I was doing and see if that helps. Good Luck Everyone....

Well, I'm on day #7 and so far; I only lost 3 pounds. I'm not giving up though; just secretly wishing I'll wake up one day and several pounds will have just disappeared!!!LOL I have noticed that I don't crave sweets & starches like I used to. I even made homemade chocolate chip cookies for the family last night and didn't have any. I had some sugar free jello instead. I just can't understand why I'm not losing more. I have been walking atleast 30 minutes a day; this morning I did 60 minutes. Maybe that will help. I hope everyone else is doing well; nobody seems to be posting on this thread much anymore!!!

KK: you say that you're going back to Atkins--they way you used to do it....what is that way as oppossed to the way you are doing it now? Refresh my memory: how much do you have to lose and how much have you lost thus far with Atkins??? Just curious!

Oh, just went back and read that you lost 47 pounds so far. How long did it take you? I thought that maybe because I only have 25 pounds or so total to lose; that's why it's coming off slower!

WOW, I was just posting on another website and realized that as of this week my husband and I have lost a total of 100 lbs. since December 10th on Atkins. I am so happy to see so many of you other people sharing this kind of success. I've never felt better!

You can get Atkins bread, no carb syrup, and no carb jelly, which allows for french toast and Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwiches. The Atkins banana nut muffin mix is pretty good with BUTTER! Plus you can get sugar free Jello and use Reddi Whip, get sugar free Jello PUDDING and make it w/ half & half and heavy whipping cream. You can have jerky, macadamia nuts, peanuts, and any kind of no carb candies or brownies or anything you can find. There is a LOT available to us out there! It's easier to follow the low carb diet when you can have yummy food! I've lost nine pounds in two weeks!

I agree Vegasgirl. There are lots of great tasting foods that are low carb when you start looking. I like the Atkins syrup very well. I also use it as a marinade to make teriyaki wings.

Some grocery stores carry Atkins products, and a lot of health food stores carry a big selection of low/no carb foods and things. If you look around hard and READ LABELS (a lot of things say sugar free and still have a ton of carbs), you will be surprised at how much great food there is that we CAN HAVE!! :)

Hi everyone -
I just have to tell you that this board has truly inspired me. I had heard about Atkins, but it wasn't until I started reading your posts that I decided to give it a try. I love how everyone is so supportive of eachother and gives such great advice. I read your posts every day and I feel like I know you (dixie, kk..you guys are inspiring!) ! So...I hope you all don't mind if I join your little support group - I could really use the help!

well, here's my story: I have had quite the rollercoaster ride when it comes to dieting. I was always thin, but had a pretty distorted body image. I battled an eating disorder through college, which thank god I conquered. My weight settled around 130 (I'm 5'6) until 2 years ago. I started a new job and had a new boyfriend (who eats like you wouldn't believe) and before I knew it I gained 20 pounds! I have tried everything in the word to lose it, but the weight just doesn't want to seem to leave! Ugh!

Anyway, I started doing atkins because I know I have a serious addiction to chocolate and bread. I eat it 24/7! I'm on day 4 of induction, and still going strong! I've lost 4 pounds which I can hardly believe. My scale doesn't move for anything, so it was quite a suprise to see a smaller number! Wahoo!! I know that with the right support, encouragement, (and a whole lot of willpower) I can make my goal of 20lbs. Thanks for listening everybody!

Hi all! I tried atkins a long time ago, but wasn't commited enough to stick with it. Unfortunately, I've gained lots of weight over the past couple years. I have about 80 lbs to lose. After some soul searching last week, I decided to give atkins another go. I picked today to be the day to start (I think I needed a few days to get used to the idea and gradually decrease my simple carb/sugar intake). It's been interesting to say the least. Last night I started getting a migraine which went into today. It made me not want to eat a thing, so I didn't have breakfast and didn't have time for lunch either. (Yes, bad, I know). I went grocery shopping to buy meats and the vegetables I can eat during induction. There's quite a bit of meat I don't like, so it's mostly turkey/chicken in one form or another (sausage, bacon, ground turkey). Thankfully I really like eggs, so that's a plus for me. Finally, I was able to eat dinner tonight, but too lazy to prepare anyting interesting. It was bacon and eggs, and a salad later on because I was still hungry. I've been drinking a lot of water. I also started taking a vitamin supplement. Yesterday, I worked out at the gym. Skipped today because of the migraine. Hopefully I won't have to deal with a migraine and can work out the rest of the week. It's nice to find support. I hope I can keep posting here.

Hope you guys are still doing good. I am new to this board. I have done the induction part of atkins about 6 times. A couple days here, a few days there... This time I'm serious. My husband always convinces me to have something bad... and he needs to lose a lot more weight than me. I started 6-2 and have lost 3.5lbs so far.
I want to get down to 115lbs. That gives me 30lbs to lose. I want to get back to what I weighed before I had children-is that possible? I still have all of my clothes, but it has been 5 years. Please keep posting.

I have only been at it for a week, but I've lost 4.5lbs. I want to lose about 30 more though. I do have an advantage. In 2 weeks I am having surgery and the Dr. says I won't be able to eat for at least a week and maybe more like 2. Whatever it takes. When I was in high school I was heavy and then I got sick and lost 60lbs in 6 weeks (down to a loose size 4), and kept it off. I even went and had my senior pictures redone I looked so good.
I didn't even give my weight a thought until after my third pregnancy-baby came, weight decided it wasn't going anywhere either. My baby is now 4... At least I haven't gained any weight besides.

Red2003,

I'm taking a vitamin supplement I got as a starter as part of my gym membership. It's bally fitness's formula for women. I don't know if it's enough or not. I never check. When I run out, I'll probably look in the healthfood store for something. Somewhere I read with brands were good quality, but I don't remember where.

Thanks Lou!

I decided to go to GNC last night and pick up all the supplements recommended in the book (Basic 3 formula, omega-3, L-caratine, and chronium). It set me back over $100 so I really hope they inhance my weight loss.

This is day 10 and I've lost 10lbs. already but the first day using the supplements. I'll keep you all posted on my progress.

Thanks!!

Hi Everyone, I just started Atkins at the beginning of this week (i'm on day 5 of induction) and had a few questions...

First, I've been told that to switch from carb-burning to fat-burning takes about 2-3 days and a good indicator of that is the color/smell of your urine... Now, I'm not so into monitoring the fluids I expel, but I haven't noticed any change at all... I'm following the induction plan really well, but I've been consuming between 20-25g of carbs per day (very much less than previously)... I have NOT been gourging on protien either... I've been making sure that I keep everything nice and balanced and it seems that by now I should have switched to ketosis... I'm thinking about buying some test strips, but I'm not sure if I should even be concerned about it...

Also, I'm not doing atkins to lose weight, I'm 5'10" and weigh about 180lbs (I can't even remember the last time i actually weighed myself, but it's been the same for a while...) I'm doing atkins to help improve my energy level, mood, help me think more clearly, etc, etc, etc... I can say that in the past week I have felt that my energy levels have increased, and I seem to be sleeping better (I attribute that to the fact that I've given up caffine) yet I don't know if having more energy is a result of my diet or if it's just psychosematic (I can't spell) since I know that's what SHOULD be happening...

So... To get to my questions (finally!) I want to know if anyone can let me know what a good indicator may be of whether or not my body is actually changing the way it processes foods, or if I'm simply eating differently for no reason...

Thanks for all the advice, and by the way, I used to weight 250lbs and lost 70lbs just by limiting my portions and exercising more... I'm happy with the way I look now, and I hope that you all manage to take off the extra pounds successfully and most importantly SAFELY... Remember, the induction phase is for two weeks only so that you can establish a baseline from which to increase your carb intake. I think most of the people who were unsuccsessful with atkins, or claim it damaged their health, thought that staying on induction for longer than recommended would be a good choice. I don't agree with that, as it seems that you would be depriving yourself of what you need to stay healthy for the long run and setting yourself up for failure. I know it's not easy, but it's worth it for sure. Good luck with Atkins, We're all doing it for different reasons, but we're still in this together :P.

By the way, I'm 24 y/o male....

Take Care.

I started the Atkins diet last thursday, and have gone down from 17 stone 7lbs to 16 stone 11 lbs. So I've lost about half a stone.

I've done the atkins before and lost about 2 stone and put it back on, i didnt put it all on at once, thats how its crept back up when i came off it. - i just got board of the food, (dont like cooking)

So i decided to start again, and im sticking to it this time. BUT, i've never got into ketosis. The sticks never come of neutral. I even cut carbs out completly last time and it still never really got higher then 2??? (any ideas)

Anyways, good luck everyone else ;)

Cheers.

Hello
First time posting here. I see this thread was started last year and hasn't been posted to in awhile, but anyone out there currently on Atkin's that would like to give some encouraging results? My fiance and I have been on it for just 3 weeks now and it would be nice to know how others are doing as well. :)

hi!

I am also on Atkins, this is my second time on Atkins since 2002, the first time I lost 32 pounds. I maintained for awhile and didn't gain much back, I went off because I lost track of my WOE and figured I could continue to lose with watching what I eat. WRONG. Anyways, I'm in my second week of induction right now and it was hard at first but already I am down 5 pounds. Thanks for finding this thread and starting it back! Keep in touch!

Hi everyone. I have been doing Atkins since September and lost 56 pounds. I am so excited and have never felt better. I still have about 20-25 pounds to go, and I hope to lose it by May or June. This way of eating works great and it's so easy.

I am so inspired to read all of the successful posts here. It is wonderful to have an Atkins board for those of us who are doing it. I read these posts as often as I can to help motivate me to keep going.

Keep up the good work, good luck to everyone...

More people to talk to LoL
My fiance and I started about 3.5 weeks ago now and we are both down 17 pounds so far, with about 50 more to go. We are hoping to get most of it off by June because we are heading to Jamaica. This may be hoping for a bit much, but we'll get as close as we can =D
First 3 days were killer for me as my typical day during the work week was a bowl of cereal for breakfast and some pasta for lunch (I am hopelessly addicted to pasta.. Italian food rules LoL).. but at least now it's getting much easier as the time goes by and at least I can eat strawberries again =)
Have any of you tried carb blockers for the occassional cheat? Someone we know was on Atkins and she said they used them every once in awhile if they wanted a bowl of pasta or bread (I know they only work on starch carbs) and was wondering if anyone else has tried them and about how many carbs they tend to block?
Good Luck all and keeping posting

Hello Fellow LowCarbers

I am new to the board but wanted to stop in to say HI....I started LCing May '03 and by Dec '03 I have lost 54lbs. Unfortunately, I have hit a major stall/plateau since then. I haven't gained any but yet haven't lost either. I need to exercise more but with my back injury I am unable to do much. I think I use that as more of an excuse than anything. My daily carb intake is around 25 no more than 30. After that I tend to gain due to my slow metabolism and the meds I need for pain mgmt. I was really shocked to find all the hidden carbs in medications--some contain SUGAR !!! and some have a starch filler. So, I think I am going to consider myself starting over from day 1 as of tomorrow. I have never cheated since I started last year since there are so many LC products nowadays that I have never really felt deprived. Anyway, I just wanted to say HELLO and that I am here if anyone wants encouragement and I could use the same. I have been working alot in the kitchen coming up with new LC recipes for me and the hubby. He is pushing me to write a LC Recipe Book, but I am going to put that on the back burner for now. Maybe once I lose these last 40lbs then I will continue with it. I want to wish everyone GoodLuck on their Way-of-Eating no matter which plan they follow. I know that everyone is different and what works for some may not be suitable for others. I will be looking forward to posting with many of you so I will be here often. Take Care~~~~ Ally ~~~~

Hi Ally,

Congratulations on your loss sounds like the end has been a tough road! I would love to hear about some of your recipes or menu ideas. Have you thought about starting induction again to boost the weightloss back up? I know with taking meds you can take them with meals. Also increasing your water always helps. Any ideas on sweet recipes or snacks? That's my downfall! Thanks

Wow, that's great, 54 pounds so far ^^
Truly inspirational.. I have about 50 more I want to lose, but have been stuck at -17 for about 5 days now.. but I've read you tend to hit plateaus where you had your weight steady for awhile before, and that's where I am, so I'm not too worried, but it will be nice to see it start to fall again nonetheless. Keep up teh good work everyone! :D

***If you like "Peanut Butter Cookies" I can tell you how I make them. All you do is mix together: 1 cup SF Natural PeanutButter, 1 lg Egg, 3/4 cup Splenda, 1 T. liquid Glycerin. (The glycerin kind of keeps these cookies from falling apart/crumbling since you aren't using flour. But you can leave it out if you don't have it). After it is all mixed well, make walnut-size balls from the dough and place them on a baking sheet. Using a fork, flatten them slightly using the traditional criss-cross pattern. Bake at 350f for approx. 10-13 min Entire recipe has approx 45 carbs (depending on amount of cookies you get & type of Peanut Butter used) I hope this will help ya with any sweet cravings. You can adjust the Splenda amount if you like them sweeter. Just make sure to add the extra carbs.

Angel & Kimmee--thanks for the warm welcome. I hope the recipe listed above helps you. I am thinking that I will begin w/induction again on Monday. I also need to increase my water at times. One thing that I always tell myself and others is not to get discouraged when the loss slows down/stops. It's when we gain that worries me. So any loss, whether it is 17lbs or 54lb--is good. For me, it's 54lbs less than I weighed last year. If it takes 2yrs then so be it. I definitely didn't put it on overnight. Keep up the good work and I'll be checking in with ya. Take Care ~~Ally~~

Hi girls! Congrats on your loss. I am at the beginning of this post from back in May of 2003. I actually had lost 48 pds in just a couple of months, but then I quit because I got pregnant, and was nervous about doing low carbing while pregnant. So I had my baby in Jan and really want to do some form of LCing. All though right now I am nursing so makes it hard to choose the right program for me. But I wanted to wish you guys good luck and say maybe we will be doing this together here soon. Thanks kk

Thanks for the recipe can't wait to taste COOKIES again!!! lol I am so excited to find other people to talk too and for encouragement. Does anyone take vitamins or supplements? I do, between the vitamins, BC and supplements I take like 6 pills a day. Also, has anyone stayed on induction longer than 2 weeks? I am going to try to stay on longer this time to help stay on track. Thank you guys!

Quite honestly we haven't really moved past induction yet. Even though we can have extra carbs, we rarely go over the 20 we started on, but we have added the foods from OWL.. quite honestly most the time we just aren't that hungry anyway. Since we are trying to lose as much as we can before our trip in June, we are planning on hovering around induction as long as we can until then (though we are going to invest in some carb blockers so we can have an occassional sandwhich on actual bread or popcorn at the movies LoL). As for vitamins, just One a Day for us. Anyone tried the carb blockers and had results either way?

Hello!

Well we have been pretty well stalled now for the last week and a half grrrr
Since we haven't changed our diet it's extremely frustrating. We have been considering having a high carb meal and then back to our normal 15-20 per day to try and kick start it again. I've heard both good and bad from people on doing this, anyone here tried it that could share their results/thoughts?

Hi everyone,
I have a few questions...I've been wanting to lose about 10-15lbs, so not much, but I'm having a hard time budging them. I was considering starting Atkins, but I've been bombarded with horror stories of it.
Basically, I've heard (and observed from friends who've done it) that after the initial weight-loss, most people attempt to reintroduce carbs and return to a healthier eating style, and the weight just PACKS ON, sometimes moreso than before.
It seems to keep the weight off for longer than a few months one must stay on Atkins PERMENANTLY, a whole lifetime of avoiding rice and pasta, monitoring intake like a hawk, being inhibited in many ways. I haven't really heard of anyone thats had the dicepline to do this, and it seems to me that starting Atkins would be like a time-bomb waiting to go off - waiting to pack on those pounds the second you try to revert back to prior eating habits, or even just altering your intake slightly.
I don't want my body reacting that way to carbs...
Have any of you experienced this? How are you feeling since being on Atkins? Do you have any of the same concerns? I really would like to try it, but am wary of these warnings...

Tyger.

p.s. doctors and the media have been saying that Atkins type diets with low-carb, high-fat consumption are dangerous? Is this true or unfounded? Thanks for your help.

I agree with Suzy, reading the book helps. When I started 2 years ago I read all kinds of books and Atkins was a waaaay "no no" back then. Now the evidence is coming out and people are looking into it more. I even battled my family about but after losing 32 pounds and keeping it off helped them see differently. What I love about this way of eating is that it is a way of life I can deal with to maintain my weightloss. It doesn't hurt to research you might be surprised what you will find out about allot of diets out there. Thanks for the input JMO.

I am so glad to see others doing Atkins! I have been doing a moderate carb lifestyle for a few months and lost 10 lbs. I, just last week, re enetered the induction phase to hopefully kick start me out of a stall and it seems to have worked. I miss fruit!! :( Does anyone still eat fruit?
