Hi there! Can someone explain to me the benefit of drinking unsweetened grapefruit juice with your meal? I have read that 1 cup 3xs per day will help you lose weight. I am an Atkins follower so nomally this wouldn't be allowed. On the package it says there is 28g carbs per 1 cup serving so I am leary about having the additional 84 carbs!! right now I am having less than 20 per day! Please let me know if anyone has had any success combining with a low carb diet so I know if it will be worth it! thanks!!

just becareful for those on medication ~xanax ~valuim~ and related meds because for some reason the grapefruit juice has a reaction that applifies sp? your medication

But is it worth having all those carbs or are they some kind of magical carbs? That is my concern....More than 80 carbs in 1 day just on the juice sems odd to me...does it work?

Depends on what plan you are doing. 80g of carbs a day is actually very low (considering the average person consumes over 500g of carbs per day), but if you are doing something dramatic like Atkins, yes... it is alot. I follow a food combining program which is low carb, but fruit is allowed... you just have to have it on an empty stomach... that is when I have my grafefruit juice... fruit is one of the healthiest places to get your carbs from, so I don't mind... good luck :)

I mix the ACV with my grapefruit juice... makes the ACV bearable. Only been doing it for about a week now. Gives me an energy boost :) Have fun tonight! I'm jealous!!!

Thanks! I will! Not sure if just wishful thinking or what but I am sooo NOT hungry today. This is day 1 of the ACV and GFJ but I couldn't even finish my lunch! I normally have a snack by 230pm and I had to force myself to have a little one just because I know it is important to eat frequently. Also I don't want to be starved when I go out tonite! Anyways, anyone else notce the less hunger?

http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/love2.gif well I had a great time out for dinner with hubby! I was pretty good. I drank my gfj and acv before I left and was sooo not hungry still! I did have some great 3 cheese spinach dip (with pitas to dip!) before dinner. that was a great treat! I had the chicken caesar salad which I couldn't finish!! I had 1 glass of white wine. So I did pretty well. I am still full though and I didn't eat that much yesterday. Do any of you feel the same way? Let me know. :bouncing:

All it is is drinking 1 cup grapefruitjuice mixed with 2 tls apple cider vinegar 1/2 hour efore each meal. it smells awful but tastes not too bad. It makes you feel full and helps to burn fat. 5lbs in 10 days is not too bad....aim for 2lbs or so a week...that is pretty close! Good Luck!
PS..anyone know anything about the carb issue?

Hey LuvPeace! Just find pure grapefruit juice not from concentrate... that is not sweetened... check the label and make sure there is no sugar... look where the OJ is. They all have a good deal of carbs since it is pure fruit juice.... i use ruby red :) Good luck!

I have a question on the issue. I am also doing atkins- so I only have 20g carbs a day or less. I drink the crystal light grapefruit juice, could that be mixed with the ACV for the same result?

I'm not sure that the crystal light grapefruit juice is the same as pure grapefruit juice since that is just flavoring. You could get the benefits of ACV by mixing it in anything i suppose......make it taste better anyways. The benefit of gfj is a totally different issue. I was very concerned about the carbs but they didn't have any negative affect. I am now mixing my ACV with just plain water but that is because I am now doing a water cleansing of my body...totally different story!!! Good Luck!

Just to clarify, grapefruit juice contains enzymes which inhibit the breakdown of some compounds in the bloodstream. This occurs because of something called "CYP inhibitors". That's why it reads on some medicines not to take with gfj. It does not actually interact with the majority of these medicines, although in at least one case the sheer acidity of the gfj can nullify the meds. Just read the label to make sure there's no specific instructions.

Keep in mind that this principle "CYP inhibition" also may apply to nutritional supplements and food intake.

Luvpeace, you will never find grapefruit juice without sugar, since the fruit is primarily sugar :) You got the right kind... as long as the only ingredient listed on the carton is "grapefruit juice"... get the kind in the refrigerated section of the grocery store... that is the best you can get, it is fresh and has no added sugars :) Ruby red is the yummiest :) Good luck!

i miss grapefruit since its only a winter fruit. but reading about how good the juice is interests me. i know the actual fruit has many health benefits, but does the fruit have the same? does it really help to cut fat and curb your appetite? is it worth the calories? (i stick to water)

for those of you who drink it, how much and how often a day do you have it?

thanks for the help!!

I don't drink much, and I don't drink it everyday. Sometimes I will drink it first thing in the morning to get me going... you must make sure it is pure juice, so get it from the refrigerated section... I would not drink too much, more than a glass a day or something like that... still has alot of sugars... I think it does help but not enough to justify drinking several glasses a day... JMHO :)
