It is harder to get to sleep... of course, it is better to do cardio first thing in the morning on an empty stomach, but exercise is exercise... do it when you can! I exercise first thing in the morning and again in the evening... it certainly doesnt HURT!! Good luck!

for me excercising before bed is awesome...i still have all energy from earlier in the day and i just go to the gym, wear myself out with approximately two hours worth of cardio...get back, shower, eat something small *i'm not a big eater as it is* and i sleep like a baby...

but like goin' cruisin' said...excercsise, at any time, is good for you...much better than doing nothing at all...so if you want to workout at night, go for it...

I had understood that exercise in the morning is better because your metabolism is raised for several hours instead of being forced back down when we go to sleep as when you exercise at night. Don't know if that is right, at any rate it works better for me to excercise at night. I just can't seem to get up early enough and then motivate myself to work out while half asleep. So for now anyway, its exercise at night or not at all.

If your goal is weight loss, than any exercise isn't necessarily better than none. If you exercise at night, there's a good chance you're not burning stored fat. Second, the real value of exercise is that it raises your metabolism so that you're burning afterwards. But if you go to sleep soon after exercise, you won't get the metabolism-raising benefits. From that standpoint, I think exercise before bedtime is a bit of a waste, at least if you're trying to lose weight.

i think it depends on what you do. i agree that cardio is best in the morning but you might want to try weight training at night, that way your body can repair itself while you sleep. Also it would burn the extra calories still floating around your body from the food you had that day so that while you sleep you can burn stored energy( hopefully fat) Im actully gonna try this for a week to see what happens. ill let you guys know if it works better than lumping everything into one excercise session.

That is typically what I do... cardio in the am and weights in the pm... I prefer it, it has worked well for me. I generally do not go to sleep until pretty late though... so maybe that is why, who knows... I still say workout when you can... if the evening is the only time you can workout, it is better than not working out at all...

I walk two miles around 10:30 pm every night. I do this because a) I have a nighttime bingeing problem and b)by the time I get back, have a shower and watch the news, I am ready to just sleep like a log until the next morning. I have been doing this for over a month.

I had read in one of the fitness magazines while at the gym that cardio in the morning is only beneficial if that's the time your body is willing to do. So if you're not a morning person with little motivation in the morning, then you should work out at a different time. If you're too tired to work out, then it's not going to be beneficial. I'm not a morning person, and never will be. I'm not truely awake until about 10 in the morning (I don't drink coffee either, hate that stuff). By that time, I'm well into my work day. I work out in the afternoons/early evenings when I get home usually. I tried the morning work outs, and I had no energy to get me going. It didn't help wake me up. I couldn't do it on an empty stomach either. I try to avoid working out after 7 or 8 p.m..

It probably is more beneficial to work out in the morning, but that by no means makes exercising at night a waste of time. Even if you aren't burning stored fat, you're burning calories you've eaten during the day that would become stored fat if you didn't burn them!

Do whatever works for you. If you find that working out at night isn't giving you the results you want, try getting up just one morning a week to work out and work your way up to more if you find that it's helping more.

I personally used to abhor waking up early enough to work out before class/work, but now I love it! Of course, it's always hard to get myself up out of bed, but once I've been walking around for a few minutes, I feel great and ready to burn some fat!

I've done it both ways, and enjoy the workout better in the evenings. I feel as though I'm more energetic and can enjoy the workout as opposed to the morning hours where I have no energy.
For instance, I was doing 2-3 mile jogs in the afternoon or evenings within a 30 minute workout. Then I tried doing the workout-first-thing and did only 1.5 miles in 20 minutes because I just didn't have the energy.
I think its important to do what you enjoy so you can stick with it. there is no 'one-correct' way when it comes to exercise. Find what works for you so you can enjoy it and go for it.
